Check the pulleys for obstructions and the belt for stretching.

You can find a diagram here... www.partstree.com
but you will have to use the correct model number that is under the seat. Click on Cub Cadet, then enter the model number. That will give you all of that mowers diagrams

Cub cadet mower model GT 2544 pto belt broke replaced with cub cadet belt. Facing the mower from the front the belt comes off the left hand pulley when engaging.

be sure the belt guides are in place. if they are not in place or bent this will cause the belt to fall out of the pulley.

Most likely its a belt tensioner spring that attaches to a pulley somewhere in the belt "loop" or "path". Look for a smaller pulley that is attached to an armature. That's usually the belt tensioner. If its not that check

have you got the belt on the right side of the idler pulley
the back of the belt should be running on the pulley

PTO WHEN PULLED DOES NOT ENGAGE....BLADES DO NOT START...

Check your mower deck spindles and belt. If belt is slipping at all the PTO will not engage.
