I have a GE wall oven 24" electric jrp20. When I turn it on to any temperature. the readout will climb to what I had set it for, but it the oven is not as hot as it reads, then I set the temp. to 500 and I after a while I got a F2 error that I looked up online and it showed the temp. went over 600. What could be the problem? Thanks!
How do I take out the glowbar wire? I have taken it off the gas tubing.
Give me the complete model # from the tag on the oven and I will look into this for you.
If you are sure that the bake element is coming on and you have no problems with voltage to the oven I would replace the oven temp sensor. It can be remove from inside the oven by taking out 2 screws. Pull out harness and all and just plug in the new one. It is # 253 on this diagram http://www3.sears.com/imaging/ImagePageJ...& cost is $73.49 from this site http://www3.sears.com/. Part # is WB21X5301.
You can use an ohm meter to check resistance on the probe. If it checks open then you know it is bad. Normal value is 1091 ohms at 75 degrees F. The problem is the resistance changes at higher temps. and you don't know what it is doing at those high temps. Unless you want to take the time to put a thermometer in the oven and check it according to the scale at different temps. You can use this scale if you want to try that:
*RTD SCALE
Temperature (°F)
Resistance (ohms)
32 ± 1.9
1000 ± 4.0
75 ± 2.5
1091 ± 5.3
250 ± 4.4
1453 ± 8.9
350 ± 5.4
1654 ± 10.8
450 ± 6.9
1852 ± 13.5
550 ± 8.2
2047 ± 15.8
650 ± 9.6
2237 ± 18.5
900 ± 13.6
2697 ± 24.4
Sorry if the scale looks a little jumbled but it breaks up as follows: (75 degrees F +/- 2.5 degrees = 1091 ohms +/- 5.3 ohms), (350 deg. F +/- 5.4 deg. = 1654 ohms +/- 10.8 ohms) etc.

It is Model # JRP20BOJ1BB & if it helps the s/n is VG606887Q. Thanks!
Is there any way of testing this before I replace it? Thanks!
I have tried to rate this as a fixya! but for some reason it won't let me. So I decided to add this note:
Thank you for all your help!!!!!!! All your info you gave me worked, I had ordered the new part, installed it and I now have a working oven & a very happy wife!!
Thanks again! :-)
turn on oven it cuts off restart as the temperature climbs it will stay on when it is closer to temp
