The thick bar you are seeing could be a couple of things - either your HDMI or any other wire your connecting has been run too close to electrical lines, or your cable incoming needs to be grounded and/or filtered. It could also be a defect in the TV.
Sometimes it will just go away.... Its hard to tell without actually looking at your setup and television.
