check power steering shops for a box and conversion kit
you will need a power steering pump and bracket and a extra pulley on the crankshaft for the belt
hard manual steering can be from negative/excessive castor and /or seized king pins and king pin thrust washers
have that checked out first
Robert,I had the same problem with my 855.I repaired the power steering unit with replacing the seals provided in a kit. Part No. AM 107078The power steering unit is made by Parker Hydraulics. You may go to the web site, refer to HGF service Manual for proper disassembly and assembly. Have a look as what is involved to replace the seals. The removal of the power steering unit from the tractor is quite involved. The replacement of the seals is also tricky as you must open up the unit.If you are not a seasoned mechanic, this repair may be tricky.
Hi sounds like a steering tie rod is worn plus an out of balance wheel get a wheel alignment check and DYNAMIC balance if the tie rod end is worn it can fall off completely leaving you with no steering control. If have a tie rod problem you may also have King pin wear. Very dangerous to keep driving In my opinion get it checked by a proper steering service centre not a tyre fitter.
power steering pump is mounted on front of engine where the tming gears are. Shaft leaks into crankase. Hydraulic fluid circulates through transmission, main system and power steering. Common problem with the 1020.
you have a condition called 'bump steer' which is caused by bent or damaged front end components.
take a good look at the front end again
if you are sure it is fine than get to an alignment shop to have it checked out. You may find that when they do a caster sweep of your front end there will be a problem with toe out on turns (TOOT) or steering axis inclination (SAI)
cheers
Check the tie rod, tie rod ends, and ball joints for excessive play. Jack up the front on either side and have a helper push and pull on the top or bottom of the tire. Watch the area where the hub pivots on the axle. if both sides check out. with the truck on the ground, have the helper turn the steeribg wheel back and forth about a half turn with the key off. Look for loose outer tie rod ends, and inner tie rod ends.
F-250 4x4 steering componants are pretty basic, If your unsure what to look for then take it to someone that knows how to fix it. Correctly. If you replaced any of the joints. It would be in your best interest to get it alighned.
