Good morning
my experience tells me that two cups of water to one cup of rice is just what is needed.

SOURCE: I lost the measuring cup for the cooker

I always fill rice up to the 2 line and then add water up to the 3 line.

How many cups of rice did you use compared to water. Use the same number, using anything from a teaspoon to a small soda bottle. The rice doesn't really care how it gets measured.

How does one measure the rice and water amounts in an older Hitachi chime rice maker

Good morning to you
Did the rice cooker not have a measuring cup, where the water: rice ratio was given?
My experience has tought me that you cannot go very wrong with two cups of water for one cup of rice.
no matter where the rice is cooked, in a rice cooker, a saucepan, the micro,
try this and as time goes you will get it perfect taking into account the type of rice.

Denise, I have owned Hitachi rice cooker since 1978. I wish they still made them for the USA, To answer your question, the Hitachi measuring cup is not a cup but 3/4 cup. I just measured mine and give or take a few grains of rice, 3/4 cup is the answer. Hope you get this 2 years late.

Lost manual; what is ratio of rice to water? thanks!

All right, this can be a bit confusing. IF you still have the cup that came with your Rice Cooker, use it to measure your rice. Then, inside the cooker there are lines showing how much water to add based on how many of the Zojirushi measuring cups you used of rice. THAT's simple.
IF you DON'T still have your Rice Maker measuring cup you will have to use a 3/4 cup U.S measuring cup. This equals the same amount as the rice cooker cup. For each 3/4 cup of rice you use, add that many cups of water. If you use 3/4 cups of rice twice, then add water to the 2 line.
In other words, a rice cooker measuring cup equals 3/4 cup of regular U.S measuring cups.
Hope I didn't confuse this too much. I hope this helps and if it does, please let Fixya know by rating my solution. Good luck and happy cooking!

Hitachi Chime-O Matic-rice cooker/steamer RD 4056-need instruction book

#1. If you have "Long Grain" rice Ratio is 1 extra cup of Water ie: 2 cups of Long Grain Rice you add 3 cups of water.
#2: If you have "Short Grain " Rice is Equal Portions of Water to Rice, ie: 2 cups of "Short Grain " Rice then 2 cups of water.
Hope this Helps.

I lost the measuring cup. Can I use a regular measuring cup? If so, what amount would I use? For 1 cup, 2 cups,or 3 cups? I'm sure there is a solution. Thanks.

1 cup of rice in the rival cup does NOT equal 1 cup of rice in a regular measuring cup. I lost mine too and I've found that using 3/4 cup of a regular measuring cup works with the lines on the inside of the pot

I learned that the measure probably held 200 ml, and will experiment to confirm.

Amount of Rice

The Japanese measuring cup size of 200 ml works fine for my Hitachi RD-5083 and likely will work for most rice cookers. The standard US cup is 237 ml.
