I'm afraid, Sony DCR-SR68 can not be used as webcam because it has no option of video streaming and goes to standby mode if does not operate for few minutes to save power.

Possible there are errrors in the memory. transfer the recorded files and then format the drive. If not connect to the PC after downloading the software and check for errors. If not there are errors in the drive.
