The problem may be with your battery charger rather then the battery itself. I don't know if you are charging your battery in the camera or with a separate charger. In either case I would buy an external charger. If you don't want to spend Nikon money. Adorama.com has several models in the $20 range. Try charging your battery in a new charger. If that does not solve the problem, there may be a short circuit in your camera's electronics that is draining the battery. If that is the case, contact the Nikon USA Service Center (look on the Nikon website) for a repair estimate.

SOURCE: Exhausted Battery

check corrosion on the battery contacts. Use a pancil eraser to clean them if you can get to them.

SOURCE: BATTERY EXHAUSTED

Make sure you have the internal menu for the battery selection correct.
Choosing the wrong battery may cause this.

Rechargeable batteries and alkaline batteries are not the same.

This may also be a condition and problem caused by the camera itself, and may need repair.

SOURCE: I keep getting "Battery Exhausted" messages, with new batteries

you have to use only very good quality batteries ...I have a philips..and if I do not put alcaline quality bateries in it ..it do not even power up ....and even with this expensive ones it eats 'em like snacks...
by the way ...keep the batteries inside only when you shoot cause all this new cameras with display and so ...consumes the batteries even when they are powered off ..
my advise is to buy some accumulators the kind you charge on the home power plug.....so in this way .. you will always have strong power into them ..and the cost its worthily ..

SOURCE: I have 2 Nikon Coolpix

All rechargeable batteries eventually die and fail to hold a charge -that may be your problem; so you may have to go to camera store that sells Nikon cameras and ask to put your charged battery in one of their cameras- if it does the same thing there as it does with your camera- it's definitely the battery- if it runs strong for a while, you have some type of problem in your camera or charger that needs fixing. There may be a film on them even if they seem shiny. Take a pencil eraser or art eraser and clean the contacts - almost always fixes the problem.

Hi i have a CANON A1000 IS and I just got it a week ago and the batteries lasted me 2 days. I tried charging my camera but when i went to turn my camera back on it said low batteries then immedietly after...

Hello,
Are you installing Nmh (Nickle- Metal Hydride) rechargable batteries?
If not then your camera probably will not recharege them.
Also trying to recharge non rechargable batteries can cause damage to the battery, and possibly your camera.
Hope this is helpful.

Canon camera won't hold it's charge

Hello!

I think I found the soultion.
So when the camera shows that changing battery is needed take those batteries to a discman or hand lamp or any other tool to exhaust the batteries completely. It's necessary becasue the camera can't do it and some charge can remain in the batteries and recharging them in this state leads the batteries to go wrong. So charge them after a total exhaust!
This worked for me.

Peace!

Showing battery low

hi anjali,
i think the problem must be with the replacement of the CCD chip. they must have must some damage to the cam with out their knowledge. but the thing is you cant even claim that with Sony. you must have took it right next day.
that too if you are in india you cant expect the service people to get these things fixed so soon. you must have been attentive.
