Yes, you will need a converter box if you are currently getting TV off-the-air with a rooftop or indoor antenna. This TV does not have a digital tuner. You don't need a box if this set is being used on a cable or satellite system (unless your service provider tells you otherwise).

Mine does this too, just bought it yesterday and noticed the sound this morning, I guess because the house was quiet, now it's the most annoying noise ever. I have been searching for solutions all day, one forum said to go to the picture settings and turn the light sensor to "OFF"...Haven't gotten home to try it yet, but I hope this helps BOTH of us!
