Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

2 Answers

My Dometic Rooftop 15000 BTU Model 459516.701CO will come on and run and then shut off it continues to cycle within minutes of shutting off it is controlled by a Dometic Comfort Control Center 2 Thermostat. I have cleaned the coils on the entire unit outside and in so it is not a heat exchange problem what could be making the pump cycle in and out without reaching temp in the trailer.

Have you checked if the condenser fan motor is running? If it isn't then the head pressure will become to high and shut down your condenser unit up on the roof. After a while the clixon will reset itself and the unit will come on again until the head pressure builds up again.

Hope this helps you.

THE OUTSIDE FAN MOTOR MIGHT NOT BE WORKING CAUSING THE COMPRESSOR TO GET HOT AND TRIP THE INTERNAL OVERLOAD IN THE COMPRESSOR - IF THE UNIT IS LOW IN FREON SAME RESULTS - WHEN UNIT IS FIRST TURNED ON DOES IT BLOW COLD AIR OR DOES THE AIR NOR FEEL COOL - JUST COOL AIR COULD BE LOW FREON - COLD THEN WARMS UP IS FAN PROBLEM

SOURCE: comfort control center not working properly

You need to check the cable that connects the Comfort Control to the upper unit. This cable has four wires and should have continuity through all wires. If there is a break in one of the wires or a short, it will cause the CCC to fail and report an error. If all this is fine, then you have a bad control unit in the main unit. Try unplugging the rear unit from the control board and then resetting the Tstat, if this works, then there is a communication problem between the front AC control board and the rear AC control board or the rear control board is bad. Check the cable between the front and rear AC for OK. If it is alright, then you have a bad control unit in the front unit.

Another quick check is to remove the inner shroud from the front unit pull down the control box. Remove the access cover and view the dip switch panel located inside. It should be labeled Zone 1 Zone 2 etc...try turning off Zone 2 and furnace and resetting the tstat. If this works then turn zone 2 on and reset the tstat. If this is ok, then turn the furnace on and reset again. If this works, then all should be ok. If one of these fails, then you can pinpoint the problem there and move forward.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

SOURCE: Dometic air conditioner blowing cool air

When the cooling slows down, but water is still running off, usually something is icing up. You can turn the unit off, and let it thaw, and try again. Sometimes, if the humidity is high, this is more pronounced. It sounds like you are low on refrigerant. That implies that you have a slight leak. You should have the unit serviced, and the leak repaired.

SOURCE: dometic a/c on fifth wheel with comfort controls

First lets address the heating issue. These are not furnaces but are known as "Chill Chasers" and are not designed to "heat" your RV Attempting to use them as a whole coach heater will burn them up in short order.

Your A/C sounds like the coils are freezing up. There is a small probe that is placed into the coils. you can see it from under the unit if you remove the interior cover - a little 1/8" in dia. silver piece flattened on one end to slide between the coil fins with a wire going back to the control box
It may have fallen out

Your choices are another Dometic or a Coleman
I prefer the Coleman But the amount of extra cooling you will get by stepping up to a 15K unit will probability not be worth the added cost

Why does the Dometic 15000 BTU RV AC Unit cycle on and off in short bursts?

I had the same problem with my 2013 Alpine! I took it to a Keystone dealer and of course it wouldn't do it for them, so I contacted Dometic 574-294-2511 and asked for Al McGuire! (GREAT GUY) He is the guru of Dometic! I live 50 miles from the nearest dealer and he sent a new pc board AND a new wall thermostat to an appliance repair shop at no cost! "I" replaced them ( 5 minute job) and it has been working fine. I do keep my fingers crossed because the thermostat is terrible to program.

What type freon for 1998 newmar mountainaire 15000 btu ac unit

Early years were R-22 but the best way to double check would be to contact manufacturer with model and serial number for confirmation.
( dometicusa.com ) for dometic products, or ( http://www.rvcomfort.com/rvp/tech_info/manuals.php ) for Coleman.

Just installed a new dometic 15000 btu heat pump and air distribution box.. confirmed 120v to the supply, nothing works fan, heat, cold... nothing. it is cold outside 30 degrees, is there a auto shut down?...

Hello,
So the 120 voltage comes into some sort of fuse protectors, you will want to check these fuses as they may have shorted or blown. If they have blown you will want to further troubleshoot the unit as to why they are out so you dont replace them with new ones and then have them go out again.
Hope this helps, James
