Is wireless turned on? There is a slider switch on your laptop that turns wireless on and off. If it's on you should see a little blue light, if it's off it's amber-colored.
Next, make sure you're wireless security settings match those on the router.
Do you have a wireless adapter program on your laptop or are you using the windows wireless setup (if you R-click on the wireless icon in your system tray -down by the clock- and you select, "Connect to a Network" you should see available wireless networks. If there is a message that says Windows cannot manage your wireless connection, then you're using a 3rd party wireless manager. You need to find out what it is and if it's running it needs to be configured to work with your router.)

If your WiFi is not working (damaged) and you still want to use WiFi connection on your laptop, you can get a PCMCI wireless card, install the drivers, and have wireless capabilities again..
SOURCE: where do I find the button to start the Wi-fi ?
As far as I know - the wireless button is on the left of the power button (the middle one)
If I remember corectly, the button should have three "modes" tap once - bluetooth, tap twice - wifi, tap three times - both.
But that could be just my memory acting up and there could be only one mode (on/off) in which case - check if the wireless is enabled in the system settings and/or BIOS.

1 check that it is switched on ( a lot of lapstops default to it being off)
2 Check the security settings are the same at both ends.
3 Check that the work group is the same
4 Check that the ips are in the same range
