My Yamaha RX-V663 is not amplifying sound as loud when a DTS 96/24 source is played. I have to increase the volume quite a bit more to hear anything. Any suggestions as to what this problem is?

SOURCE: Unable to play DTS-HD & True-HD

What do you hear? Do all other modes work ok?

If Audio Select (Page 44 and 98) is set to HDMI you will hear silence if no HDMI signal is present. I think AUTO is the best choice here.

-------

On Page 98 of the manual it says a bunch of things concerning automatic signal detection and input selection.

Initial configuration D) INIT. CONFIG
Use this feature to select the settings of the audio input jack select, active decoders and extended surround when you tum on this unit.
....

Audio select AUDIO SELECT
Use this feature to designate the default audio input jack select setting (see page 44) for the input sources connected to the DIGITAL INPUT jacks when you tum on the power of this unit.

HDMI set E)HDMI SET
Use this feature to select the component to play back HDMI audio signals.

Support audio S. Audio
Use this feature to select whether to play back HDMI audio signals on this unit or on another HDMI component connected to the HDMI OUT jack on the rear panel of this unit.
...

CHOICE = RX-V663

FUNCTION
Plays back HDMI audio signals on this unit. The HDMI audio signals input at the HDMI input jacks of this unit are not output to the HDMI component connected to the HDMI OUT jack on the rear panel of this unit.

CHOICE = OTHER
HDMI component connected to the HDMI OUT jack.

NOTES
This unit transmits audio and video signals input at the HDMI input jacks to the HDMI out jack only when this unit is turned on even if "S.AUDIO" is set to "OTHER".

I'd look in these areas for specific guidance.

If it's still sufficiently loud, why bother replacing it? Our hearing is subjective. Do all sources exhibit a lower level than you remember? If not, what's unique about the audio signal path for 'movies'.

I have a Yamaha RX-V663. I recently upgraded to 7.1, but the 6th and 7th speakers do not activate on DTS HD Master Audio Blu rays. The 6th and 7th speakers do activate on DTS True HD, DTS EX - ES,...

Hello,
It is unclear to me as to what you mean when you say they do not activate. Does that mean that they just don't play, or does it mean that your receiver doesn't show them on the display? If your not hearing the sound from the speakers, are you sure your dvd movie is capable of outputting 7.1 or is it only 5.1?
If the receiver doesn't show the speakers on the display, try running through the speaker setup again to make sure you selected both sides and rears for the setup.

RX-V465 Yamaha Reciver we can get picture but no sound w/PS3

Check HDMI Sound settings:
Enter Setup menu via remote, then Func. Setup / HDMI / Audio. You can choose from Amp (sound will be played via Yamaha), TV (sound will go straight via HDMI out to your TV and not play on Yamaha) and Amp+TV (Yamaha will play the sound and also pass it to the TV).
Also what is your source? DVD or some network player? For example Yamaha cannot decode audio in AAC or other computer formats, so be sure to change the audio settings of your player to output PCM and not raw/bitstream.

Cannot get yamaha rx-v663 to play DDTrueHD or DTS HD audio

If your Blu-Ray player has TrueHD or DTS-MA decoding, then it will send a already-decoded audio signal to your receiver. The receiver should then just recognize this as "Straight" decoding, because it isn't actually doing any decoding.

Hope this helps.

I have seen this type of thing with several remotes.  You have some light source in the room that is interfering with the reception of the ir.  Turn off all light sources in the room and then try.  You might be surprised!

Yamaha RX-V663 Multi-zone question.

i just got the same receiver like few days ago im still leaning it too,it is a very nice receiver though. here is some settings to help you.
check this to make sure zone 2 is showing in the menu,
on remote
menu, basic setup, speaker set, extra should show zone 2 it might show zone b...presence...or none needs set on zone 2 hit the left a-e/cat button it is weird the right doesnt circle all around? i had to call crutchfield tech for that one(GREAT COMPANY!)so that is for the setting to make sure zone 2 is set up now some to adjust the volume.
menu, manual, options, zone 2 set. here you can set 2 features
max volume( the loudest it will play) inti vol(the volume that it will play at when it is turned on) the yamaha has alot of quirks to it but has a very nice sound. for second zone features and a easier receiver to set up i have onkyo and they are very easy to set up zone 2 olume and everything on the front panel. hope you dont have to try to program a universal remote to work it seems yamaha uses discrete codes that are impossible to find i tried one universal and can only get very basic features to work.
hope this helps you out,
jeff
