Question about Dremel Variable - Speed Multipro Rotary Tool 395
Remove all the star head screws, unscrew the top plastic collet holding the plastic outer casing on. take a pair of vise grip locking pliers open the plastic casing just enough to expose the inner shaft inside the casing lock the vice grips onto the metal shaft between the bearing casing and the collet that is stuck enough to hold but not to dent it up. now that the vice grips are locked onto the main shaft get an adjustable wrench and size it to the collet screw size and turn it should come off rather easily or at least mine did just did it as i wrote this then screw the casing back together and happy dremeling hope this helps

You get on the Dremel web site and send them an email indicating they better wake up the engineer who designed this and the engineering manager who let this go out. That plastic pc inside holding the collet nut while turning with the wrench is called "planned obsolesence (sp). They need to add more meat to the shaft with a hex head so you can hold with 2 wrenchs and remove. That will eliminate stuck collets. Mine is sitting on the shelf stuck. I tried everything. I may be headed to Home Depot for a Roto Zip as that head works the way I described above!

I generally tap LIGHTLY on the side to loosen it up any excess pounding will damage the collet and other parts.

I am currently going through the same thing. I finally got the collet nut off by taking a set of channel locks and pliers. It would probably have been easier with vise grips because i had to put soooo much pressure on it. I saw it had rust on it. Now my collet is stuck, i have tapped it, oiled it, soaked it in oil. Nothing and 2 of the top pieces of the collet are broken off now

I know it's obvious, but how about soaking the nut in WD40?
