We have a Dyson Animal ball and we are having trouble with the balls not turning properly. When you use it pushing forward it is very hard to push at time. Sometimes it will roll along nicely. Doesn't matter if it is on carpet or bare floors. We laid it down and tried turning the balls and they make a grinding noise. Also one ball seems to be crooked with it being closer at the bottom than the top. We did send this sweeper back to Dyson last week for repairs. It was back to us the next day. Used it for five minutes and it started doing the same thing. Making the grinding noise when the ball is spun and being very hard to push over the floors at times. Got a solution to this problem as we are getting fed up with this sweeper.
Hi Max, I had a similar problem with mine a couple of years ago. I had just cleaned all of my filters on my Dyson, One of them being the one in the ball. Was almost impossible to roll across the floor, I messed with it for a couple of days, no solution. Called Dyson, the technician I talked to thought it might be the entire head causing problems, they sent a new head it was under warranty so no cost to me. Problem still existed. I took the ball apart and looked closely at it and it seems I had screwed it back together wrong after the filter cleaning. Long story short, check to see if the ball is put together correctly. Hope this solves your problem
SOURCE: Dyson Animal, lost suction and bypass valve seems to be loose
Dear terrygivens, 2-17-2009 4:12am EST (USA)
Most suction problems are caused by a clog from picking up something you probably didn't see or if you have pets an accumulation of pet hairs!
To clear it out take a metal coat hanger and unbend it til it's straight, then bend the end and tape it so when you push it through to unclog your vac it doesn't rip the hose.
Push the coat hanger in from the bottom brush area through the opening where the suction is. Also push it in and out anywhere else you can......You'll probably find something clogged....keep working it til it loosens and intermittently turn on the suction.
If you have a second vac with a hose, use that hose for suction on the clogged vac!
This should do it!

SOURCE: DC15 Animal brush motor not working?
Just had the same problem. Switches and motor checked ok, then found the circuit board on the left hand side of cleaner. The fuse (on the board) looked ok, but when removed and checked for continuity I found it had blown. The problem I have now found is that the fuse cannot be ordered only the complete board. Hope it gets the brush roller going again.
SOURCE: motorized brush bar not turning on Dyson Vacuum
Apparent common failure is that either the thin yellow and or blue motor drive wires that run from the LH side of the vacuum where the "control board" is located down into the hinge / ball area become stretched and then fray and eventually break. Happened to my Dyson twice. First repaired under warranty, second took about 20 minutes. You need a Torx screwdriver to remove the LH panel ( 4 screws) and also an access panel (2 screws) at the side of the ball which permits access to the blue / yellow wire connectors. I replaced with a new wire and connectors having fed the wires through the access hole making sure sure enough wire was available for the movement of the handle. Also ensure that when the covers are replaced they do not trap any wires underneath.

Two things you can do.
1- Remove the brush as if you were going to change the drive belt for it.
Clean the brush as best you can and spray some WD40 on the hard rubber/plastic
pieces at both ends of the brush. Rotate the pieces to work the WD40 into the space
between the pieces and the brush axle.
2- If you have one available, as long as the brush is off, change the belt.
This should get your unit back in operation.
If you find this solution helpful, I would appreciate a Thumbs Up from you.
Thank you.
Paul

Next to the power switch is another button, this switches the brushbar on and off. The brushbar can be turned off for hard floor surfaces so as not to scratch them
