When I got this I turned it on and it worked, now I bought the new map version and no it charges and gets power, but won't go past the tom tom screen and to turn off I have to hit the reset button. The Tom Tom works just fine and goes through all screens and start up when I have it plugged into the computer and through Tom Tom home. I unplug it and try to turn it on and again, nothing but the Tom Tom screen. I've done. resets with the pin hole, and done the scan disk check on it, it find errors and corrects them and says its fine to run, but still the same. I was also directed to remove the application and re-install....still with the same results. PLEASE help, I'm leaving in 3 days with 4 kids 5 states away!!!!!
Actually, no it doesn't work plugged into the car either, it only seems to operate through the computer. Tom Tom Support never seems to be around to help. If I could get it to work plugged in constantly I wouldn't mind, because I don't think they hold a long charge to begin with, so I usually have it plugged in for trips.Actually, no it doesn't work plugged into the car either, it only seems to operate through the computer. So then would my idea work? Or are you looking for an explanation for why the device doesn't work properly? So then would my idea work? Or are you looking for an explanation for why the device doesn't work properly?
Is the Tom Tom able to be plugged into your car while it is on and functioning? I have no way to solve your problem with such little time but my temporary solution is to just keep your GPS hooked up to your car the whole trip because it works when it's hooked up right? Is the Tom Tom able to be plugged into your car while it is on and functioning? You might have configured it to save battery. One battery saving feature involves turning off screen between instructions and another always turns off screen. See Screen capture from the manual (Go 730)
If you have made a recent update this may be the reason you may have lost your FM transmission!!
Tom Tom disabled silent FM transmission on these units to comply with the law in certain countries which prohibit these FM transmissions. Later updates configured the units to output lower strength FM transmissions.
Question for you: How did you wind up with a navigator with no card and no maps? You might consider taking it back to the place you bought it and exchange it for one with the minimum necessary to make it work.
If you bought your TomTom brand new, the first time you installed the TomTom Home software, you may have received a message that a free map upgrade was available. If you did not receive that message, then either the unit is up to date, or it was not new.
You can check the version of map you're using by going to the TomTom Home software, and from the main menu, click the "More" button to get to page 2. From there, choose "Manage my ONE XL", and click on the "Items on Device" tab.
Click the "+" sign to the left of the word "Maps", then click the "More Info" link to discover the version of map you are using. The most current version (as of December 1, 2009) is 840.2568.
If that is not your version and you believe you're entitled to it, call TomTom technical support and state your case. Otherwise, if you want this version of map, you will need to purchase it.
When trying to load a new map onto your device, make sure you first run the backup routine (in TomTom Home) to back up the old map. After downloading a new map, but before it can be installed, you'll need to remove the old map, since there isn't enough room on the device to have both maps loaded simultaneously.
Hope this helps.
You should first update your version of tom-tom home. (download and save DON'T run it from the web as this has some minor glitches on occasion)
If you are looking to buy new maps then TTH will help you with that.
You didn't say if it was TTH that was not finding maps or your GPS itself when you power it up. This is important information that is needed to help you further.
If you have an SD card then remove that before you power up to see if your tom-tom works OK or not.
After a certain period of time updates can only be bought and not just downloaded
Did you try to reset the Tom Tom? Did you try to see if the unit is charging or fully charged (samll green light on the lower righthand corner should illuninate when charging)? I have had problems with the power connection at the base of the unit getting loose. Try taking it into the computer and getting a full charge if it is a charging problem. Not an expert but expereinced the same problem recently.
