After turning on the camera and taking a picture, the camera starts warming up until it's burning right beside the flash and in the battery case. I have to take out the batteries and let the camera cool down before using it again, and when I do it starts again with the burning. Last time it even shot automatically without me pressing the button. I never dropped the camera, so I don't think it's related to a damage I caused...is there something I can do or do I have to make it fixed?

Removing the batteries or shutting the camera off while it's loading is just like shutting the power off to your computer while it's loading a page. It sure doesn't like it and can scramble its processor into malfunction. Please start with fresh batteries, format the SD card making sure the slide lock is pushed forward in the unlock position (towards the gold contacts) Load any pictures from the internal memory to the SD card, if any download to the computer and reformat the SD card. Now we have started with a clean memory. The SD card should be formatted every time you download pictures to the computer to keep things clean and running smoothly.
To the problem with not taking the picture or taking a long time to take the picture. I'm thinking you have the camera set in a "creative zone" which relays on user input and what has happened is the setting are far beyond "normal hand held photography. This meaning the exposure time is in long seconds and the camera is actually taking a picture (shutter speed for this camera can be as long as 30 seconds) I would suggest until you get use to using this camera that you turn the dial on the top to the "P" (program) mode that way the camera will look after both the shutter and aperture for the scene or subject in front of it. Another thing that could be happening is the self timer has been set for 10 seconds further prolonging what seams like forever in an exposure. See picture.
If this fails the the camera can be rest except for time/date. I'm saying this as there may be a function that has been set in the "Set up Menu" that you are not familiar with and wish nly to continue taking pictures in a more normal fashion. See the include picture which is also on page 95 of your manual.
Place picture here.
