The easy answer...

Absolutely NOT.

This is by all means a standard receiver. It in itself is an amplified unit. You would have to run the speaker ports to the input ports on the second unit.

If you do that, you'd have all kinds of problems. The most likely one being that you'd simply overload the input ports on the other unit.

It is never a wise idea to amplify an output signal into another unit that is just going to amplify it again anyway.

The bigger thing to keep in mind is that the input ports on the second unit just are not designed to take that kind of wattage. They're designed to take a few mW to a few W at most. Y'know?

I realize it's called an "amplifier" and all, but it's only meant to amplify the source signal to a level where it's audible through speakers.

A 'true' amplifier is meant to amplify a signal into a high-power monitor; such as a guitar amp, etc.

Please don't try to do this. I'd hate to see you lose a perfectly good receiver to something like that! :P

Good thinking, though. At least you're thinkin' up ideas on how to improve something. :)

The types of remotes are as follows

- Single item, or fixed. This unit will only operate the unit it came with
- Multi function, this type can operate the unit it came with and a fixed set of other types. Normally the remote comes with a list of supported device it could work with.
- Learning, the combine both a predefined list with the ability to learn functions by sensing input from the original remote.
- Programable. These are the newest remotes that work like multifunction but the list is maintained by the manufacturer and down loadable from the web.

I would guess that the DVR has a multi function remote.
If you can't find the specific Yamaha in the list, then
try another brand, this could take a while.

Some multi function remotes have an option that allow a semi automatic configuration.
You turn on the item and then using a special key sequence try to turn off the device. once the item turns off you should be able to control it.

If you can't the Yamaha has a learning remote. If you really want an easy solution try looking at a programmable remote. I just got a Logitech, (Harrmony). Life has never been so easy.

Try to disconnect speakers one by one and see if any of them causes the problem.

were you able to solve this one ? I have the same problem with mine. The only way to clear the lack of sound in one of the speakers is to rotate the input knob !!

Balance control

The channel that is weak will either have a faulty transistor or a bad capacitor on it. Most engineers would test it by injecting signals into the circuit at different points. Working backwards from the front end. When the signal goes weak, you have found the faulty stage.

I have an (obviously) ancient but still reliable rx-v990 with the ddp 1. I would like to use it as part of a consolidated set-up with a samsung 550. any recommendations on making this work?

What's a Samsung 550 (no letters)?

The DDP1 is a Digitasl Processor, no amp.

The RX-V990 is an AVR receiver.

What role do you want each of these pieces to play?

The Front channel amps of the RX-V990 could be slaved to the DDP1 (or any other volume-controlled Line level source) by simply removing the jumpers in the RX's Front Pre Out/Main In and driving the Main In.

My turn table works properly but its volume is too low thu the amp is perfect. the needls are new too

Look it can either be one of 3 things. (1) Cartridge knackered. 2 Internal pre-amp in turntable. 3 Cartridge Pre-amp in Main amp connected to it.
To solve (1) disconnect all wires to cartridge. With the turntable connected to main amp - touch each channel wire (that connects to cart) with your finger. If you hear a decent buzz the cart has gone. A weak buzz and the other two could be still to blame.
Remember all functions on your main amp can work fine, but that pre-amp for the cartridge (often a single IC) can be dead or weak.

Yamaha rx-797 w/Yamaha ge-60 eq utilizing prein/main out ..and ad

It sounds like you want to use the external amp rather than the internal one. If that is the case, just connect the output of the EQ to the input of the external amp. All you are doing is inserting the EQ between the amp stages now. Using the mx-1 rather than the internal amp is no different.

Is there any DTS decorder player that suit with Yamaha RX-V 2090? Thank you.

Try the Technics SH-AC500D Digital Surround Processor. Its outputs should match the inputs on the RX-V2090. I own both units, though I am using a DDP-1 with the Yamaha receiver. I use two separate amps with the Technics to achieve surround sound using my good vintage stereo system (two of them actually - one for front and ane for rear). The Technics is a nice piece of kit.

Main speakers A and B not working...

Two possibilities for the no sound on the main speakers:
1) May be caused by the lack of the pre out main in jumper on the back of you reciever.
2) Check to make sure the -10db selector is not stuck between positions.

No Sound

Three things to look for for the no sound problem:
1) Make sure the pre-out main-in couplers have jumper wires in them
2) Make sure the mute is not engaged
3) make sure the speakers wires are inserted properly. you need to unthread the five-way binding posts before inserting the wire between the post nut and receiver.
