Your USB ports on your computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.
To Identify a Working USB Port
Begin troubleshooting your USB ports by checking Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.

  1. Click the Start button. ClickControl Panel.
  2. ClickSystem and Maintenance.
  3. ClickDevice Manager.
  4. Double-clickUniversal Serial Bus controllersand check to see if all your USB ports, hubs and controllers are functioning correctly. Any devices not functioning will have a yellow exclamation mark in front of them.
  5. If Device Manager shows any USB ports, hubs or controllers are not functioning, check for updated drivers.

To Update the USB Port Driver

An out-of-date BIOS driver can create issues with your system recognizing the USB port.
  • Watch a Video on Steps to Update Bios on Your Computer.
    1. When the update process is complete, your computer will restart again to load the operating system with the new driver version installed.

Hi,
Which USB port Damage because there are two USB port available.
One is Printer USB port or Sec is PC USB port.
If you are say PC USB port not working first you check it USB driver installed or not, or USB connect to motherboard or not. PC there are two side USB available one is front side and sec is back side. You connect only back side, because this USB connect to main board. So you connect only back side. If not working removed driver or installed driver.
Or if you are say printer USB then change cable or port or not solved only change option.

Laptop does not detect new Canon printer. Connection/Insert to Printer USB is very loose. Could this be the problem?

It could be that the USB port is broken. Do you have anything else you could try in the same port to see if it is working, or do you have another port to try it in? Also, do you have a disc with the printer and if so have you installed it?

Trying to connect from USB laptop to parallel printer

You can't have a double hook up to it,When the parallel port is used the usb port is disabled and when you use the usb port the parallel port is disable. This is done to prevent damage to the printer. You can network the laptop with the pc and print that way though

USB port problems with hp printer

There are few things to remember using USB.
  • If your System is in hybernation mode, don't remove any attached USB device, because it will damage your USB driver. This is one of the known problem from microsoft.
  • If you have to remove any USB device use 'Safely Remove Hardware'.

To remove currepted USB drivers its not enough to remove your printer drivers.
  1. You should un-install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' from Device Manager.
  2. Then re-boot to clean registry.
  3. Install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' using XP Setup CD.
  4. Then check the Mass storage, PDA etc, it should recognized by XP.
  5. Then install printer driver (don't attach printer to system untill setup finish or setup says to connect).

I think it will fix.
Please let me know your feed-back.

Thanks

Inkjep printer

Unplug the printer. After uninstalling the software make sure you delete the printer from Printers and Faxes! Try plugging it up again(don't install back the software just as yet), the New device found pop up should come up! if it doesn't then it could be the USB cable / the USB ports on the PC or the USB interface on the card! If it does , put the cd in the drive and select Install Drivers automatically(if its pops up) Also, Try using different USB ports if the new device pop up doesn't pop up! Test the USB ports by using a regular USB device in the same port you are plugging the printer into! A bad USB cable could be the issue but it can also be something else! You'll need to verify that its the cable, what you can do is try it with a cable that you know is fully functional! If you still don't get a response from the printer and everything else works(i.e. usb cable, usb ports) then it could be the USB interface on the printer! and you'll need to take it to a tech! Hope this helps!! regards, babb
