My daughter bought a Zune about 5 years ago. She never used it. I thought I would try it. Works fine when it is plugged in to the computer or wall socket. When you unplug it it won't turn on. The battery is green when I unplug. When I plug it back in to the computer, the battery shows red. How can I get it to work without it being plugged in to something?

SOURCE: my zune wont turn on

I turned on my Zune and the screen froze so I turned it off but it would not turn back on.

I went online and read somewhere that if the screen freezes then you should press up and back and wait for the zune insignia to come on. Well my zune was not just frozen it would not go on but I tried the up and back thing and it worked. it took about 9-13 seconds but it worked so give it a chance and if that doesn't work try charging it overnight. Hope that helps :D

My zune worked an hour ago just fine. I get home to try to put music on it and it wont work..i'm using the same laptop i was using before. It wont even say it's connected to the computer, i tried the wall...

I guess since you tried all the things that a cust. serv. rep would have said to do, maybe it needs to be sent in for repair. I have a Zune HD and before that I had the older Zunes and it broke on me. Sometime new technology just doesn't work like it should.

I bought my Zune 2 years ago and thought I had lost it, but found it. So I have been using it for only 1 year. About 2 weeks ago even after charged, it will only play off the charger for about 45 minutes....

Debbie,
Zune batteries are replaceable. They can be purcahsed for about $10-$15 and with a little knowledge can be replaced by anyone. Check the internet for both the battery and replacement instructions. eBay is a great place to find the battery and most places even include the needed tools

Can't move music from Zune to new computer

No. You cannot take music off your zune and put it on another computer. You will need to copy your music files found under My Documents, My music, zune. put it onto a large flash or external drive. Then install the zune software onto the other computer i havent done so already. Take the files you copied and paste them back into the zune folder on the computer. You might have to reauthenicate music that you have downloaded. Just log in and it should be fine

Totally dead Zune!

It sounds like you guys might be suffering from the Infamous zune new year bug. Let your Zune completely die (leave it for a few days if you have to). After doing this plug it into a computer or wall out let to charge. Leave it to charge for at least an hour. Come back and unpluge the zune and reconnect it to a different usb port if possible. Let it continue to charge.

Letting it die should fix the freeze and swapping ports during the charge will help the computer detect the zune as when their batteries are 100% dead they do not have enough power to say that they are there.

Hopefully this will help out one or two of you.

ZUNE NOT WORKING! ONLY BLACK SCREEN! WONT CHARGE!

Listen everyone this is what happened to me and what I did. Let the battery drain completely (unplugged from computer). It usually takes 5 to 6 hours to drain completely.
Then plug back in and hold the back and down button at the same time. Zune should resume functioning afterwards. All that is needed is a recharge.

Frozen zune 80gig 2nd gen, error 5

One last ditch effort: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

And, yeah, as far as the international replacement - that is how all the manufacturers are - they are not willing to pay the cost to keep their customers. Also, they have no process in place for fulfilling such a request, even if they have offices in both countries (which most of them do). Sad, really.

First time chargin Zune 30GB Brown

I had the same problem (frozen after first time trying to charge.) I found the solution on another site. I just unplugged the device and let the battery drain completely, then plugged it back in (rear usb port) and voila, it works, that simple.
