Done some reserach on the web re this. Basically your satnav is broken. GPXFIX downloads a list of satellites which your device then uses - but as the satellites move - you need a new copy of gpxfix.

Tom Tom 540 can't find satellite signal for past hour

The problem can be fixed by resetting the tomtom one xl gps receiver. Tomtom one xl gps receiver is common with this problem, after resetting it, it is most likely it will happen again. So be ready to keep resetting over time.
It most like is as a result of bad strength to search and detect the satellite. So you have to adjust the antenna also to a area where it can pick signals easily. This is quite uneasy because the areas to locate the satellite varies in terms of the location you are.
Software update will not fix this problem as well as the quickgpsfix, so the bes solution is for you to keep resetting it. Hope this helped. Thank you for using fixya.

Two year old tom tom xl can take up to 15mins to get a signal any advice

The TomTom device needs to tune in on three or more GPS satelites to find your position. On start, it scans the hemisphere for any satelites and ten minutes and more are not uncommon to establish fixes on them.

The solution is a data package you can download from TomTom servers via the Home software, "QuickGPSFix". It holds precomputed satelite positions for the next few days which speeds up locking to satelites to a few seconds from minutes. However, you need to update the package roughly once a week or the initial delay will pop up again.

My tomtom one XL.S keep reading,no maps found. All I need is a map of the U.S.

I would shut it off and turn it on. If it persits, just hit the master reset in the back. But what you may want to do is update the maps on tom.tom.com

My Tom Tom One takes a long time to pick up a GPS signal (30 to 45 minutes)

You might want to try updating your TomTom through TomTom Home. It loads something called "QuickFix" onto the TomTom, which I guess tells the TomTom where GPS satellites are going to be. I get a fix in about 5-15 seconds if I keep this updated, otherwise it takes a few minutes.

I have a Tomtom XL and lately its taken forever to find gps signal, i tried everything like resetting it which works for a bit but then has that problem again. Can someone help. thanks in advance

i work as a truck driver on a small fleet of 7 vehicles in the midlands UK

3 of us have Tom Toms, the others have medion, navman or garmin.

ALL the tom tom users have been experiencing GPS problems this week ( june 21 onwards ) whilst the rest of us have seen no change in GPS satelite availability.

In addition, a friend who uses a TOM TOM One XL in another part of the UK has also had same problems.

Its a TOM TOM problem generally it seems, and NOT your particular piece of kit.

Tom Tom sat nav takes ages to get a GPS signal now.

Think I have sorted the problem out. I read some of your readers' solutions and it was mentioned that it may be advisable to log onto the GPS update. So, I installed my disc which came with the pack and followed the instructions to download the GPS update (and also took the opportunity to download other updates which took some time). Anyway, used the sat nav this morning and so far, it appears to be working normally now and the signal comes on in seconds!

When I switch on my TomTom, SD card has a red cross?

This problem is due to the memory card not containing the TomTom application or map. To update the application onto the memory card, Connect the device to your computer. Open the TomTom Home application. Click on 'Update My Device'. This should then install the application onto the SD card. Alternativly, you could perform all the steps above without the SD card in the device, this will install the application onto the internal memory. Note: you may also need to install your maps, voices, etc after you update.

Tom Tom XL worked fine and then after stopping for lunch could not find satelite signal the rest of the 200 mile drive.

Try going online at the Tom Tom site and updating the device (it's free). There's a new update each week that tells the Tom Tom where the satellites will be during the coming seven days. Admittedly, this only speeds up the process and not finding a signal for 200 miles is a stretch, but it's worth a try if you don't regularly update.
