Could be that the Windows boot file has corrupted. I've had it happen randomly once, what you need to do is get a windows installation disk. Boot your pc from the installation disk (Guide can be found here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-vista/start-windows-from-a-cd-or-dvd) Click repair once you have accessed the installation, navigate to start up repair and run. You can also try using commands in the command prompt as follows "bootrec /fixboot" without quotations. If this fails, then have you checked the status of you're hard drive. Is it still functioning? Let me know how it goes.

Toshiba Qosimo stopped on startup logo, unresponsive to commands

I used this same response in a previous solution....It mostly looks like your installation of Windows has been corrupted....some system files may have been affected. See if you can find the recovery disk for your machine. One of the things you can try is use the CD as your boot disk (you may need to enter the BIOS or SETUP to change the boot order...there will be a key to hit when you see the Toshiba splash screen when you first boot the machine...it will say press "<some key here>" to enter setup.)
Once you boot from the disk I would try getting to a command prompt and running the following command: chkdsk c: /f /r

This will scan and repair any bad sectors on your hard drive and if they can be repaired it may make your machine bootable again. If they cannot be repaired, it may be that your hard drive is dying. ither way...if you get into the machine (even from the boot disk) if you can see the drive, I'd recommend backing up whatever files you can, because if the drive dies, you will lose your data. You may also use a Linux LIVE CD ... this basically boots a version of linux from a disk rather than your hard drive, it may allow you to test hardware and back up files as necessary before thinking about reinstalling Windows.

Pro-book 4520 won't boot. I switched on this morning. The windows (7) logo appeared, then blue/black screen and cursor only. Would not boot up. Ran diagnostics which said all OK. Still won'

The windows files are corrupted or the hard drive has issues, load cd installation disc if available, if that fails have the hardware checked for possible replacement.

Water spilled on my Vaio laptop. When powering up image freezes on Windows logo before cursor appears. Need to know how to open to extract data and possibly repair laptop.

Have your laptop brought to the nearest brand service center. Don't switch it on otherwise, the water that is already inside the laptop may cause short or damage the motherboard. Have it checked by a qualified and competent technician.

My Acer Aspire M1201 Desktop will not boot. I turn the power on but all I get is the Acer logo followed by "No Signal" and the monitor goes blank. I keep hoping I will finally hear the beep noise...

Hi,

If you are seeing the Acer logo on boot up then the machine is working. The problem will be your graphics drivers being corrupt.
Try starting the machine in Safe Mode. To do this repeatedly tap the F8 key as it's just starting up. It should take you to an advanced menu with Safe Mode at the top, select that with the cursor keys.

If it allows you to boot in safe mode then wait until Windows loads and then right click on My Computer/Computer, select manage from the sub menu and then Device Manager.

Click on Display Adapters and uninstall the drivers. When its done unistalling the drivers restart the machine in normal mode. It should boot into Windows. If it lets you boot into Windows I suggest that you download and install the latest drivers from Acer's support website.

If you need anymore help please post back.

Good luck and regards.

I have a program which has jammed up my computer. Once windows boots up, the cursor freezes. When I boot up in safe mode, I can use the cursor, but can not uninstall a program in safe mode--help!

If you are using Microsoft OS then after booting :-
Start > Run > MSCONFIG
Untich the program which is causing the program. Apply and OK.
Restart your machine once.

POWERS UP BUT THEN FREEZES AFTER ABOUT 4 MINUTES

Need to test and isolate where it exactly freezes? After dell logo, after windows logo or while inside windows? Now, if it only freezes inside windows try to turn off your windows updates and antivirus first and check if still freezes, if yes then try booting in safe mode, reboot system then keep tapping on f8 once dell logo appears. Check if laptop keeps freezing in safe mode. Please let me know.

Computer displays black screen with blinking cursor

Its seems its not booting correctly. Just Insert Windows CD and fix the windows. Another solution is to press (I think) F1 or F11 or F12 (depending on the model) when booting the machine. It will take you to recovery mode. Use it to restore the boot section ONLY.

Laptop boots up intermittently or screen freezes

basing on the information you have given here are the possible solutions:
remove any external device connected to your system (printer, external hard drive and others) if removing this does not work and still gets a blank screen with blinking cursor try to go to safe mode with networking. if successful try to download the driver for your video adapter.

when you try to start the computer , do get anything on the screen like a logo? when does the blank screen occurs, is it during the turning ON of the computer or during the windows xp logo appears on the screen?

a blank screen could be caused by the following: defective video adapter, corrupted video driver, defective memory, unknown device causing the issue like the hard drive, optical drive or other peripheral installed inside the computer.

try also using an external monitor
