I have a cecilware nht2-ul whose right side is not turning. When you turn the switch to drink or granita mode you can hear the gears attempting to turn but the auger does not turn. The manual has no troubleshooting tips for this. Is there something out there that I can reference?

Is the condenser clean and clear and compressor not overheating? Refrigerant should not need "maintenance". If it has a leak, it must be repaired before new refrigerant is added.
It probably is the worm gear but you must remove the planetary roll pin to be able to split the gearcase. You will find another smaller roll pin in the worm gear. Your speed lever problem will be either a loose screw that it pivots on or the lever is bent. Hammer and correct size punch is only solution for those roll pins. Bigger hammer sometimes helps.
you have a magnetic auger drive which means it's sealed between the motor and the inner auger. if there is liquid actively dripping on the inside from the back, the plastic under the magnet on the back of the inner auger has worn through. remove the bowl, the outer auger, and the inner auger (pull hard- it's a big magnet). the tubular black plastic that the auger was around may have scratches and holes in it. press the plastic all around the outside. if it gives, you have a hole. unfortunately, in order to get that replaced you need to sever the refrigeration line, which means big bucks. sorry, but you've been had.
The unit comes with the frost set at a default. You need to adjust the frost to fit the mixture and consistency that you are making in your machine. To change the frost and lower the temperature so that the compressor will continue to run once the the product is added you will need a screw driver.
The instructions on how to change the frost level and temperature on your machine are on page number five of your instructions manual. Just in case you dont have a copy of it, here is a link to download a free copy:
Turn the gears again by hand like you did and lower the door a couple feet. Now find the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and using a small screwdriver turn this about 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Now you can go ahead and operate the door.
if it freezes, the thickness of the mix triggers the torque switch to turn the compressor off. if it doesn't freeze all the way, the overload on the compressor triggers it to shut off to save the compressor from damage. it overloads if it gets too hot or the pressure is too high (also due to heat). make sure the condenser coils on the left side are clean and free of dust and obstructions, and make sure the fan is working to cool it down.
TRY TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT WHILE TURNING KEY, especially if your wheels are turned to either side and is not straight. Turn to the same side that they wheels are turned to if they are not straight. If that doesn't work that ignition lock may be at fault and you will need to replace. Good Luck
