I have both firefox and IE on my personal PC at home running Vista. When I use IE, all processes in yahoo are slow, whether it is clicking on compose, sending the email, etc. It doesn't matter...it seems to be anything that yahoo mail has to act on or process. This started back last fall. I have the same problem with yahoo mail at work. I am using windows XP at work. I don't have firefox installed at work. When I use firefox, I don't have this problem. That is why I use firefox and home when accessing yahoo mail. I have sent emails to yahoo tech support but that is a lost cause in dealing with them.

How many browsers do you have ? - I have 3 (IE - firefox and Chrome) Ist step of any troubleshooting is to launch a spare browser. Download a new one trial Make it default here ( Vista HP ) Start > Default program > Set your default program > find your new browser - click on it > OK Launch new browser - to set sign in cookie- hit this link https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify/ sign in - drop "@ yahoo.com" if you have yahoo email address.
Good browser, good antivirus; Yahoo is kind of disgusting the way it dumps ads out all over, and AVG probably puts things in the way of those ads some day carrying malware in Firefox. Since IE has a different callback API, it has to work from greater distance in that case.
I recommend using a POP3 proxy service or application to access Yahoo e-mail unless you love Yahoo's interface. In the latter case, enter a trouble ticket at AVG's site and/or forum site, and a love letter to Yahoo Mail developers, and try IE and Chrome for now.
Regrettably, Yahoo! Mail has deteriorated in my personal experience as well, on both Windows XP and Mac OS X operating systems, and in IE and Firefox browsers. The problem is that the new Yahoo! Mail is a fairly complex application with a lot of programming code that must be run by the Web browser (known as DHTML or browser Javascript). This code provides the all the fancy drag & drop functionality, etc. The display advertising within Y! Mail appears to make matters worse, especially if these graphical ads contain animation and are rendered with the Flash plug-in. When this happens, the browser is executing both DHTML and Flash programming code, and slowing down further, or introducing more bugs.
You may wish to try gmail (google's email). You will find many Yahoo employees admitting that they prefer Google's gmail for their own personal use.
I am a Computer Software Expert. I believe that Yahoo! has lately made silly mistakes in their Yahoo! Mail in software/hardware side. The Mail is extremely slow even I have a super computer. This problem is Yahoo! Mail's problem; it has nothing to do with your PC as anyone uses it will suffer nowadays. In the past, it was nice and fast. Now it is Yahoo! Garbage Mail, so they should change the name!
