Follow-up. I found the slip on which the LG tech wrote down the part number for the board to fix the vertical red stripe. I was mistaken in my previous post. It was not the Z-Drive board. The board you want is:

X DRIVE BOARD; Part 6871QRH043A
Type in the part number in a search engine and yuo will find multiple places to purchase. Ebay may be the cheapest. That's where I got another part which got my picture back. I did not buy this part myself because now that I have my picture back, I do not want to screw it up, so I live with the red stripe.

Most likely a power supply problem. I recommend taking this to a certified technician and having them look at it.

Another "same probelm"

My set has encountered this magical 50/50 split screen and it seems to be quite a problem since I am not the only one researching this issue. LG was of no use because of course it is just out of warranty. Any solutions on fixing this or am I out of money in buying a new plasma?

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you might have a backlight issue with this TV set. It could also be due to the inverter circuits for the backlights. The inverter is the power supply source for the backlights. There could also be a screen driver problem; if it is then you have to change the entire board. All this is only recommended if you have some kind of expertise for checking the internal circuitry of the TV as these units have high voltages running even when the set is switched off. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Hi,

This is a common problem on these sets. As the menu is fine, this is highly suggestive of an internal failure.you have a driver board failing if you would open the set and on the left side is the Y-sustain board there are two boards connected to the Y SUS board. The one on the top drives the top half of the picture and the one on the bottom drives the lower half of the picture open the ribbon cables make sure to clean it or Re solder if you see needed turn set on and test, sometimes cleaning this will fix problem sometimes re soldering will fix problem and last resort is, the board itself is bad.Unfortunately,you need to diagnose and inspect all the components before replacing any part.If you wish to repair it yourself, i could give you a link to buy the service manual and would upload a troubleshooting chart ( generic ) that would explain how you need to diagnose the fault when you open the TV.However, there is no quick fix. It has to be opened and tested and then diagnosed.
