The PLU has a condiment or preparation PLU association. It needs to be told which PLU you are linking. For example, a PLU set for steak may need to be told the PLU for medium rare or well done. Otherwise, you need to use the codes to turn off the condiment/ prep link from the dealer manual. If you need it, one of the users has the manual here:

This type of problem is normally caused by a switch. When the drawer opens, the switch closes and the machine goes into 'drawer open' mode to prevent another transaction. The switch or the switch activator has probably failed.
Remove the entire drawer assembly, meaning everything that comes out when the drawer is opened. Use a flashlight and look at the inside rear of the drawer opening to see if you can see the switch. It may be a lever or a button and it may be in line withe the drawer or in may be off to one side. When it is located, try to press on the button or lever. If you can and the machine goes back to 'normal mode' the problem will be identified and you will know that the switch is good. Now you need to locate what actuates the switch to see why it is not making contact. Look on the part of the drawer that should come in contact with the switch. If a small, thin piece of plastic has broken off, tape a small piece of a hard substance in that area. Close the drawer to see if the 'open' message goes away. If id does not, try a thicker piece. Repeat until the 'open' message goes away. When that happens, glue the last piece in place.
If the 'open' message does not go away when the button or lever is press, it indicates that the switch is bad and needs to be replaced. Most of these switches make contact when the button or lever are not pressed. In the short term you could locate the switch and disconnect one wire. That would simulate the button being pressed. You would just need to remember to not start another transaction until the drawer is closed.
Good luck, and please let me know how it works out.

You have set that item to be linked to a condiment/ prep PLU which means you set the wrong digit during tax linking. go back and turn the condiment/ prep PLU feature off
Testimonial: "This cleared it as you said, key worked but didn't add tax. Programed it to the correct tax table and now life is good again. THANKS"
