Try typing this at a command prompt and reboot
diskperf -y

DISKPERF [-Y[D|V] | -N[D|V]] [\\computername]

-Y Sets the system to start all disk performance counters when the system is restarted.
-YD Enables the disk performance counters for physical drives when the system is restarted.
-YV Enables the disk performance counters for logical drives or storage volumes when the system is restarted.
-N Sets the system to disable all disk performance counters when the system is restarted.
-ND Disables the disk performance counters for physical drives.
-NV Disables the disk performance counters for logical drives.

Getting disk err/unable to read msg w/all disks. Disk put in right way..cleaned/no dirt or grease. Did what manual said to do. Not working. Should I take it apart to check anything inside?

When a disk is inserted, an error message comes up saying that it is unable to read the disk. We tried a disk cleaner which didn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you take the console to a game store and get them to have a look at it, it sounds like there might be a fault with the CD drive or the laser not reading the discs properly

Avic-n2 won't read the navigation disks...

If it play cd's but not not dvd's or navi disc then your laser is "tired" or out of alignment. If it does not play any type of disc then it needs a new laser pick unit. A capable tech should be able to re-align or replace the laser pick up unit for about $75 to $150. Contact me if you need it perfome. My number is 801-414-4566.
