Hi,
To my knowledge, your laptop (IBM ThinkPad X30 2672) does not have any built-in WiFi. It's modes of connection are IrDA, modem, Ethernet, USP, Firewire aside from the regular serial & parallel. This would indicate that if you are wireless you either have a USB dongle or PCMCIA card. Please post back with your WiFi brand/model and your Operating System. Further, please post back likewise your WiFi AP/Router brand/model.
The message "a network cable is unplugged" pertains to the absence of a lan cable connected to your Ethernet port.
Good luck, kind regards and will await your second post.

Hi,
It's your memory, or more to the point, the memory slots. take all memory out, install 1 piece in the slot closest to the back of the laptop, push down on the memory as if pushing it into the motherboard, and hold pressure while booting.
Bet that works. if not, let me know.
I've got the same machine.
Good luck

The T42 has a bulit-in wireless network adapter and a LAN network card. T42s most likely have an Intel wireless card or less likely a Cisco wireless card.
Your wireless network adapter may have been disabled in the BIOS
and/or
The drivers for the wireless network controller has not been installed.
To check the network adapter go to the Control Panel, Click on System, click on Hardware Tab then Device Manager. Then scroll down and click on Network adapters. If you don't see your network controller or you see a yellow ? against Other devices for the Network controller. Then either it has been disabled and/or the driver was not installed.
To get the driver for the network controller you need to dowload it from the IBM/Lenovo WEB site their support/download page from a computer that has Internet access. Make sure you select your laptop model and the driver for your Windows version.
Install the driver and you then need to configure the wireless adapter to suit your wireless router settings before you can access the Internet.

Hello Kangarootrib,
Since you bought the ThinkPad second hand and the software installation disc did not come with it, you should go to the IBM ThinkPad manufacturer's web site. Once there, look for your specific model and search for the proper drivers and download and install them on your current computer. Drivers are basically small bits of code that tell the operating system how to communicate with hardware devices, which when you purchase products new come with a CD that contains these instructions for your computer to be able to communicate with the device. Hope this helps and please let us know if you need further assistance.
P.S. If you would not mind, could you please rate my help as I would really appreciate it. Thank you
