I found this article online, and it may work for you:
"Ok this has worked on at least four tomtom one’s
And one xl’s that i have tried,
First of all connect your tomtom to your computer.
making sure your online,Go to log on.
if you’ve not created an account create one now.
If you’ve had to create an account restart tomtom home.
You should have the tomtom home screen in front of you,
Now even if tomtom home is showing you logged in, ignore
this click your email adderss in the top right hand side of the screen
and log in again and click continue.
Then click Device/disconnect device.
Now your tomtom will update itself and your maps will be restored"
If you're referring to the maps, then no. Not legally.
Maps cost a huge amount of money to create and update, and nobody gives that info away for free. The only exception is if you bought the unit brand new and register it within 90 days of first use, then any map updates released in that time will be free. There are other resources which claim to offer free compatible maps, but they are as up to date and accurate as you may expect free maps to be, so probably not as good as the maps you already have.
If you just want to update the points of interest then there are many free resources, just search "nuvi poi" on your preferred internet search engine.
I do some work with TomTom - it's possible that if something interrupted or went wrong during the install, the map could have been deleted. TomTom is aware of the problem and is working to fix it - if you are map-less, call support (866 486 6866) and we can work on getting you a new map.
go to thepiratebay.org and search tomtom maps and you should find a bunch. the only software you will need is limewire (limewire.com)(it is free) or any other torent downloader. Note this is illegal but if you want free maps from all around the world that are TOMTOM made then this is how you do it.
You are confusing map updates with POIs (Points of Interest). Garmin does not keep up with restaurant openings and closings, to the best of my knowledge. Updating your maps will give you the latest street information (such as new subdevelopments, one-way streets, newly opened bridges, etc.) but will not let you know that the KFC closed or that the Chalet de Alpina closed last year. Your POI information is current as of the initial programming of your unit. You can enter POIs manually, if you chose to do so, but they will only be good as long as you keep up with them.
Make a backup of your Zumo by copying all the file to your computer.
Using your PC and MapSource select all the maps then send them to a SD memory card need 2Gig or bigger card.
Try to rename this file to gmapprom.img and replace the same named file in your zumo. (I haven't tried this personally, so if it fails, just replace this with your backup and all will be as it was.)
If this fails, you can use the SD memory card in your zumo and it will use this map instead, but it will take longer to boot your zumo.
You'll have to remove enough stuff to make room for the new map. I had the same problem which is how I found this site. Turns out, the new map is larger than the one that came on the unit. The 1 GB of available space is pretty much all used when you get the GPS. Just copy all the voices and POIs that you aren't planning on using to your computer in case you change your mind later (you can just download them again for free too). As for the voices, only one works for text-to-speech anyway and that would be Samantha though a male voice is available for download.
You'll need to clear just under 4 MB to make room for the new map, and that's if you haven't added anything. Having the drive/memory on this unit just larger than the map makes it very difficult to get much use out of TomTom's great add-ons.
Hye! here's how you can take care of this issue: Dowload google maps from the web (for windows mobile) & install it on your diamond. In order to use GPS on this phone, your internet/gprs connection must be functional; without netwrok connectivity you cant use GPS on this device as it does not have the map interface on its chip (& cant be loaded later too). It just has a light GPS transceiver which in presence of a mapping software (such as google maps) can show your position on the globe & in some countires can also navigate you. After installing google maps, make sure your internet connectivity is on and then work with google maps 'USE GPS' & 'My location' or 'Navigate' functions ... enjoy!
"Isn't it supposed to look like the image on the package? "
NO, the image on the package is just for show. The newer Garmin C5XX, Nuvi, will allow you to change to a car icon. To get 3D go to the main menu and select the wrench, then select map, then Map view to change to 3D.
Mapsource 2008 only upgrade the streets and POI (point of interest).
