Not really. If your piston rings are worn down and letting oil into the top of cylinder where it can be burned, only an engine overhaul with new rings will stop it. Lucas oil conditioner products, Marvel mystery oil, anything like that might help a little, but won't stop the oil burning. Start saving money for a rebuild or replacement engine. Good luck.
in general when car smokes ( white ) it burns the engine lubricating oil this because the sealing rings ( triple for each piston ) not doing their job any more or for another reason the cylinder wall itself due to the continuous friction between wall and seal o rings it creates a very Little gap that allows the oil to enter the combustion chamber and mixed then burned with fuel generating that white smoke and decreasing engine pressure you will have to replace the cylinder head gasket since you are going to reveal the head to get into the pistons seal o rings if the cylinder walls got little wider due to friction don`t panic you will get lager seal o rings to skip such a problem
blue smoke is usually oil burning- is it light or heavy- if light- change oil and go up one grade- rings are worn- if heavy- time for a rebuild- rings need to be replaced. but for the money on rebuild- could find car newer and lower milage
have you tried to run finger around inside of tail pipe to see if its burning oil!! but do this when it is cold. you may also have bad oil rings on pistons. if it is burning oil it will smoke very little if any. because the convertor runs so hot it will burn up all the oil residue. so you may noy be able to see any smoke. have a good day!! check carefully all gaskets for oil leaks, and also make sure oil filter is hand tight, sometimes a loose oil filter will start leaking oil.
Anything is possible but I think it more likely that your rings where damaged when the engine got hot.Rings have a great deal of spring to them which holds them out against the cylinder wall. Drive it for a couple of weeks to see if it clears up and then do a compression test.Don't forget that oil also has to get past the compression rings as well before it can be burned.I've got my fingers crossed for you.Good Luck
Your car is probably burning oil through the piston rings due to wear. The valve cover gasket will show signs of leaking from the space between the valve cover and the head. Remove one of your spark plugs and see if it is black and oily. You can try using a little thicker oil than what you have now or just add a little in as it burns off. Buy a quart of name brand 20w/50 and use that to top off the oil as it burns off. You should notice a difference.
So upon startup the car has a little smoking going out the tailpipe? Then it goes away after the car warms up a little? You probably have stuck piston rings and are burning oil at first until the car warms up and the rings seal better. What kind of oil are you using? What weight is it? I don't know what is in the car, but if it is conventional oil at 10w-30, try changing it to synthetic and using 5w-30. I don't know what that car comes with from factory or calls for, but in my experience I've stopped oil burning in a piston engine with thinner, synthetic oil. This helps to unstick the rings allowing them to seal better AND the thinner oil doesn't collect on the rings so much, keeping it from burning or going out the tailpipe. Also, synthetic doesn't burn and carbonize like convention oil (dinosaur juice) does.
I really hope I understood your problem and helped you with it. If not, please clarify. Good luck!
well if it is white smoke and smells a little fishy, that is anti-freeze burning up so your head gasket mostlikely needs to be replace. but if it is a blueish white smoke that is oil being burn and that mean that you need to change your oil. if you have been changing you oil normally and it is giving you that then that means your pistion rings are worren. if you don't want to replace them you could put a heavier oil in like if normally you use 10w-30 you could put in 20w-50 in and that should help. worren pistion rings allow excess oil to get into the pistion chamber and that is why it burns it up, This should also be noticed by you oil level dropping faster then normal too.
it shows that the piston rings of that cylinder are weak and they cant hold the lubricating oil below the burning chamber and oil is burning with gasoline. Check the smoke from the exhaust pressing gas paddle full, if a lot of white smoke appears, u need to replace the piston rings, if the smoke is negligable, u can enjoy another 10,000 kms without any problem but with a little care of not pressing gas paddle in smaller gears, I hope this will be helpful.
Take your vehicle back to your mechanic, and have him perform a DRY, then a WET compression test. Please provide both readings back to me. In the meantime, ask him what it would cost you to him replace the piston rings. This is your problem. The 2 tests will simply verify me thinking.
