My RCA F27442 started acting up about two months ago. Screen suddenly goes blank, stays blank for about 3 minutes then comes back on by itself. Problem getting worse and worse, from once a day to every half-hour as of this writing. No problem with sound.
1. Repair it myself ? I'm a newbie, know enough to unplug TV first but can't tell "HOT" sections from "COLD", or anything about resoldering or cleaning glue off coils.
2. Get professional repairs ? Excellent TV is well worth saving. Any recommended TV repair firms in Los Angeles (Western San Fernando Valley) ? What do I tell them ?
You may have bad solder connection in the horiz.countdown section.
you may also have a GEM Star module bad.

I have the same problem. One day last year it "snap crackle popped" I unplugged it and turned on my little 13 inch. This year i got around to taking the cover off and take a look. The only thing I found was a small 125amp fuse blown on the board. No other signs of burn or meltdown. I thought I would get lucky and replace the fuse. Now after reading all these posts I'm not sure that will correct the problem .
