Too defrost just open the doors for a day with the unit unplugged. as far as why it is frosting up check door seals make sure they are all good and seal it up well and that should take care of it.

My Kenmore Model No 596.69282012 bottom freezer fridge develops a thin sheet of ice on the bottom of the freezer compartment. I have checked the freezer seal and it is intact. Any suggestions?

Is it supposed to be a frost free freezer?
I had one to act like that, but it was on warranty and they repaired it for me.
I wish I could have been able to help.

Frost is building up in freezer compartment

  • Sounds like you have a defrost problem, either a bad defrost heater or thermostat

Icing up

I've just had a similar problem. I fixed it by removing the large panel on the back of the inside of the freezer. I found a large build up of ice at the bottom of the freezer which seems to have developed because the drain hole at the bottom of the freezer was blocked. I defrosted the ice, cleared the drain and now the freezer is working fine.

I have a Kenmore bottom fridge model #596.69274991. Although things are cold and frozen, the room temp is only 70 degree but it seem to run for well over an hour although there has not been much opening...

Tom, you pretty much have it all covered. Make sure both the freezer fan and the fan under the fridge are both running and keep your eye on the inside back wall of the freezer compartment fro any signs of frost build up (possible defrost problem).
Good luck!

Refrigerator was making a 'Thump'' noise every so often and just stopped working. Freezer is still working It's a kenmore elite 3 door bottom freezer refrigerator model number 76539

Unplugging for an hour won't allow it to defrost if that is what the problem is.

Look inside the freezer at the back wall. Look for heavy accumulations of ice building on the cooling coil, which is behind the back wall panel. You may have to look in the louvers or past where the evap fan is located.

Once we know if there is heavy frost or ice there, we'll have a better idea how to resolve. Is there any warranty on this refrigerator that you know of, besides the 5 year compressor warranty?

Kenmore elite bottom freezer. Frost, Ice tray

The adjusta cube ice maker has an on/off switch. To stop the ice from overfilling and being knocked off when you open the freezer door turn the ice maker off and then back on as needed.

Water leaking into freezer

It may be the defrost thermostat. This thermostat turns on a heater in the freezer a couple of times a day and melts the ice in the freezer which should go into a tube that leads to a pan underneath the refrigerator, where it sits and evaporates from the heat of the compressor. It could also be the timer which tells the refrigeator to turn off a couple of times a day and tells the defrost thermostat to turn on.

Ice build-up in freezer - Kenmore Model C978-66795-2

don't know this appliance but for guidence:
some appliances have the evaporator in a compartment at the top of the freezer and the drain comes out of the back and runs externally to the drip tray. there should be a grill in the compartment so just peer into it and see if there is ice build up.
wherabouts is the freezer ice forming?
