Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This might sound a little crazy but, i had the same problem with my rca 50 inch, and he changed the bulb. which are pretty $$$$$125.00 at my tv repair person cost. the real cast was $219.00.Hope this helps you
