How 2 fix Brother's CS-8060 bobbin auto winder to work?

Bobbin winder stopped working anyone know the number of the O Ring to fix this dude? Let me know how many screws and where they are at and the part number of the O ring please. Thank you in Advance, Karen

Yes I did all that you mentioned on gut instinct, however that was back in June. My O ring had totally melted so I had hours of goo to clean up and then replace all the pieces back again. What point I didn't think of was putting in a drop of oil, which I always did with my old Singer. Wish you had read my request back in June, but I am sure you will help the next person with this problem. I think the best thing to do is get a separate stand alone bobbin winder to not deal with this again in the future. Thanks for the suggetions.

Replacing the bobbin winder rubber ring.

  • The case halves are held together by 5 larger screws, one under the carry handle, obvious from the holes in the casing, plus one smaller screw up by the foot-raising lever.
  • There is also the final screw, which is a devil to find. You have to remove the plastic tray to which the spool carrier is attached, up by the spool winder. You do not need to remover the spool winder stop but the small screw on the left, in the bottom of the tray-shape.
Next, WITH CARE , lever round the tray with a thin blade and use a small screwdriver to ease it out of the case; there are 2 bits that stick out more than the rest.
  • Once this tray is out you can see a small bar with a screw. Remove this screw and the 2 halves of the case will separate.
TAKE CARE NOT TO DROP THE SCREW INTO THE WORKS!. A piece of sticky-tack on the end of the screwdriver helps here if the screwdriver is not magnetized.
  • Now you can carefully ease the ribbon-strip cable from the circuit board and move the case round to be able to access the screws that hold the circuit board. You do not need to pull out the other cables; just take a tad of care as you work.
The bobbin winder mechanism is held in by 1 screw - take this out and you can then easily replace the rubber drive ring -(which you have providently ordered)
  • Take the opportunity to clear out any fluff and dust while you have the cases apart. Put ONE drop of oil in the center of the bobbin carrier rotating mechanism and one drop on any moving joints.
  • Replace the components/ ribbon cable in the reverse order, taking care not to drop the small screw! It is necessary to carefully line-up the hole into which it fits. It is surprising how easily the tray clips back into place, compared with the hassle you had getting it out.
I took both my CS 8080s apart last week to replace the drive rubbers. The first took nearly 1.5 hours, the next 1 hour as I knew what I was about.

Thanks Roger, where were you in June when I already tore my machine apart? :) Thanks for the valuable tips, those should be super for others who encounter the same problems we all eventually have. However in my case my O ring melted completely and I had days of clean up to do. I didn't mind taking apart the cables that was easy for me with fixing my own PC's etc. What I didn't think to do was the drop of oil, wish I had your response earlier while the machine was apart, that is a great tip. Now I am thinking the best plan is to get a stand alone bobbin winder on not deal with this issue again. Also as a first clue before a total melt down, if your bobbin is not winding tightly, clue will be bobbin thread binds up while sewing, then you need to replace the O ring. Any of those bobbins will need to be unthreaded after your repair and do a new bobbin rewind. If the bobbin thread feels soft and springy, then it is a poorly wound bobbin and your O ring is shot. Thanks again Roger. Karen

You can find an O-ring at any auto parts store, or by googling your Serial number and part.

I usually just figure it out as I go along when pulling stuff apart.

Getting the cover off my brother cs 80. all screws have been removed and the cover comes off partially. I seems to be stuck at the turn wheel, like something is holding it fixed.

I had the same problem when opening my machine. The problem is a screw underneath the bobbin winder area. Pull the bobbin base off and then gently pull up the bobbin winder assembly from under the front cover. You will see a screw in the corner to remove so that you can complete the task. I had to purchase a service manual and then I had great success with replacing the bobbin winder "tire" (Bobbin Winder Tire, Babylock, Brother #X55238051 at sewingpartsonline.com - $3.99!!)

Bobbin winder stop before befor fully wound

Is the bobbin close to full in the middle but not that full above and below? You may need to watch the bobbin wind and give the thread a nudge so that it fills right across the bobbin core to avoid this happening. Most bobbin winders will click off before the bobbin is completely full as you don't want any thread actually touching the bobbin case when it is in position, just fill to about 80% for good tension and stitching.

Bobbin winder does not spin

Hi. I have a CS-8060 and while I love the machine--the bobbin winder isn't my favorite. Anyway, I have found that the cover to the bobbin winder must be opened completely, also the thread spool must be as far back as possible. Another place I'd check is with a small flashlight just under the small bobbin spool. It can be hard to see under there, so a small flashlight helps. I have gotten thread wound around the pin that goes up to hold the bobbin and if sufficient thread has gotten up in there it could keep the spool from spinning. It's hard to clean out, but careful use of a seam ripper and tweezers does the job.

Good luck and let me know if this works.

BOBBIN PROBLEM

Firstly check that you have the correct bobbin for your machine, there are many bobbins that will fit in the bobbin case and sew ok, but the hole in the centre is what matters. If you do not have an original try putting the bobbin on the winder spindle with a small piece of paper inside the centre of the bobbin so it is tight on the shaft.
If that does not work it usually means the winder rubber on the bottom of the cover is worn or stuck, this part often looks like a large O Ring.

Bobbin winder shaft won't spin. LCD says bobbin winding.

Mine stopped working too. Gave up and wound bobbins by hand for a while until I broke down and took the machine apart -- an ordeal to figure out. I found that a pliable ring on the winder was completely disintegrated (gummy plastic-like stuff). An online search found this -- a bobbin "tire" which I THINK is the part I need: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbin-winder-tire-brother-x55238051.aspx. Hope this helps. --Also cleaned all the lint out when I had the machine opened up. They don't make it EASY!

Sewing Machine CS-8060

I do have the very same problem! I took my bobbin case out and took a good look at it, turns out right below the plastic hook part, the plastic was cracked off (probably due to thread jamming). Turns out I need a new internal bobbin case, which range in price from $35-$50 from what I researched. I had no luck with local sewing centers on finding the part.
That may (or not) be your issue as well. Good luck, and I hope this your issue is simple fix. A little tune up after might be needed, HAPPY SEWING!! ~Kelly J~
