As far as I know, the original zd8000 operating system is Windows XP. If you have Windows 7 installed, then you need to get Windows 7 disc and its product key. If you need the Windows XP reinstallation media, then you can use HP Windows XP reinstallation disc only (for example: HP Windows XP Professional with SP2 disc).

SOURCE: bootmgr missing

To fix this, you'll need a Vista DVD and a working DVD drive. It doesn't have to be the original DVD that came with your computer, you can use any Vista disc.

Put the disc into your hard drive and boot from it. The process differs depending on your BIOS, but the most likely way is to go into your BIOS settings (Press DEL when the computer boots), search for "Advanced Settings" and for anything that sounds like "Boot Order", then change your first device to your CD/DVD Drive. Save the settings and reboot your computer.

Once you've booted from the disc, press "Repair" - you'll be greeted with a screen with several options. One of these should be "Startup Repair", press it and let it do its job. When it finishes, reboot your computer: your problem should be fixed now.

If this doesn't work, follow the same steps to boot from the Vista DVD, but this time choose "Command Prompt" when the option appears. In the command prompt type:

bootrec /rebuildbcd

Answer "yes" if it asks you about your installation path.

I need to factory reset my computer, I am the administrator of the computer my password has been working and all of a sudden it quit, don't know it or it's messed up so i need to reset the computer wi

There are multiple ways to reset the administrative password, some requiring more PC familiarity than others. I don't know what you are running, XP or 7 on this 2011 notebook but the below may help in either case.

If your computer is part of a network, the systems administrator can change the password without knowing the prior password.

If there is a 2nd administrator account on the computer and you know the password of that account, you can use it to change the password. See: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-Software-Recovery/I-FORGOT-MY-ADMINISTRATOR-PASSWORD/td-p/247032

You might be lucky enough to discover that even though you have had an administrative account with a password, you might also have one that does not have a password! To check for this, at the login screen press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice. Type is Administrator as a user name and leave the password blank and hit enter. You can then go to Control Panel's User Accounts and reset your password from there.

If none of the above applies and you have access to another computer, you can use a password reset disc that you have to burn such as http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ or by folllowing process in Hiren's Boot CD (google for that). The pogostick should work with XP or Windows 7. A user on the HP link advises you to enter a wrong password and only after you are prompted to reset the password do you insert the password reset disk and click a link.

The point is that you may not have to go to a factory reset if you can simply reset the password. Read through the HP link I provided and you may find just what fits your situation.

If you discover your computer has enough problems that you need to indeed go back to factory defaults, let us hope that at least XP SP3 was installed at the factory when it was released. If you get to the recovery console by pressing F10 (for the XP) repeatedly or F11 (possibly for Windows 7), you may be able to make use of system restore rather than a destructive factory reset which would wipe your data. Hope this helps.
