Bunches. Cable boxes don't receive per se. They unscramble a TV signal that the cable company puts on the cable. A satellite receiver takes a hi frequency RF signal that it recovers from the antenna(dish and electronics) converts it to a lower frequency. It then demodulates the signal and processes the audio and video components so you can see and hear the program.
If you have a Sanyo TV with out audio/video connections, you will be using an RF connection cord between your TV and the satellite receiver. You will operate your TV on channel 3 or 4, match this with the channel 3 or 4 on the receiver box.If your TV has audio/video input connections, you will need to purchase rca connectors. They will have a red connection for right audio, white connection for left audio, and yellow is your video connection. The color codes will be on the input connections on the TV and the satellite receiver as well. You will than program the TV to input one or two, of the TV to receive the signal from the receiver. Use the satellite remote to control channels on the receiver box. When you are through watching TV, be sure to shut off your TV as well. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!
Your nephew must have pushed the "Input" button on the remote. The TV is now looking for signal at a different input.
On the remote, press the input button until the TV switches back to the correct input. Make sure the satellite receiver is turned on so when the TV lands on the correct input, you will know it.
Try calibrating the antenna to the nearest satellite. The DirecTV box has in the installation menu instructions on how to do this. You'll need some tools like a socket wrench to unlock and adjust the antenna. Put in the menu your global position or your city and select the transponder that gives better signal. If all satellites are out of signal, move the dish until you receive at least one. To calibrate the dish from the ceiling or wherever it's installed, put the TV volume up until you hear the short "BOOP" sound from the dish location. When you get signal, the "BOOP" will turn to a continuous "beep" with a higher pitch when higher the signal you're receiving. After getting the best signal, switch transponders to see if there's another with better signal, after that, lock the antenna and try watching a channel.
This is a problem with weak signal strength, You will need to find a better place to put your television so it can receive enough signal to operate correctly. If this does not solve the problem, you will need to check the satellite box for problems with receiving the signal from the satellite. You may need help from the satellite company to check the signal strength output and input levels to make sure its working properly. I hope this information helps you solve you problem with the loss of satellite signal in your television. Thank you for using FixYa and have a nice day!
You should have your system setup in the following manner below:
You also will only be able to receive the HD locals with a HD OTA antenna. It is possible that you will need to turn the satellite off in this room to view the OTA's effectively.
Also you should use a splitter as depicted in the picture by the red boxes to combine signals of this frequency. The blue box is the diplexer on the incoming satellite feed and the black box is the seperator that most dual tuners use. If yours does not utilize this device you will have another cable coming from the outside of the house to the back of the receiver. The location of the ports on the back of the receiver in my diagram may differ in position on your receiver so obviously connect them to the proper port. I hope this ressolves the issue and there is no need to seperaate the signal at the remote tv as it will only be a duplicate of the same signal you have connected already as OTA and the TV2 backfeed are of the same frequency range.
