SOURCE: Dishwasher won't start
Hi,
If the unit won't start, but "hums", then the motor itself may need
replacing (you need to check for 120V at the motor harness). If the
control itself is bad, then you would have to replace the control. You
mentioned that the door didn't work right - if that is the case, the
door switches may not be making contact properly, thus preventing the
motor from starting (the door has to be closed properly for it to
start).
If you have any other problems please ask me.
Goodluck,

About the only things that move in the cabinet other than the water pump is the spray arms. The lower arm should be screwed down fairly tightly (plastic screw), but the upper arm is held in place with a plastic friction plug--it tends to wobble more. Spin both arms by hand to see if either hits something (have the drawers in). The lower arm has metal clips on the ends which may be coming loose. They are just clipped onto the arm edges. Hope this helps!

These control boards do not have fuses on them. I opened mine up when the front panel touch pad stopped working and the LED indicators were anemic. This is a sign of the ribbon cable connections have oxidized. The ribbon cable connects the touch pad to the control board.
Others have written up nice solutions on similar Maytag diswashers with the touch pad.

The previous expert shows that you can diagnose this by using a 10k resistor and connecting pin 6 and 10 on the ribbon cable connector and it will start the dishwasher (you have to trip the door handle and carefully do this with the power on). This proves that the control board is fine and ribbon cable connections are the problem. Don't forget to quickly trip the door latch once the dishwasher starts.
My solution was to purchase a contact cleaner called Deoxit. You can order from RadioShack.com or get at Frys. Spray Deoxit on both the ribbon cable end (removed) and into the connector on the control board. Deoxit removed the oxide on the connectors. The twin pack Deoxit spray comes with a solution that helps prevent corrosion. I am 1 day into the successful repair of this model Maytag dishwasher.
Previous people have suggested heat and steam get into the control board and oxidize this connector. I notice on the top right where the control board sits, there is a gap to allow steam to get into the door/control board area. I used bathroom caulk to seal both sides of the door to hopefully prevent further corrosion.
SOURCE: Maytag dishwasher MDBH985AWS1 won't drain
Hi
Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due
to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that
the drain is not clogged and remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is
present then remove the lower front access panel to check the drain filter and
drain pump for any clogs, you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump
completely. Also, check for any food pieces stuck near the pump impeller &
clean the chopper assembly. Please note that dishwashers don't drain out the
complete water such that heating element doesn't overheat. Hope this helps...
Please post back for any further assistance.
