Lift the seat and see if the pulley on the transmission turns, if it does then its probably a belt problem. Many of them have a 2 belt system that operates very much like a qurque converter, Find where the 2 belts meet and see if the pulley has anything lodged in it

Transmission problems, after going down hill it stalls out and wont go again for a while.

Hi Marsh:
Sounds like an interesting situation.
There appears to be unrelated issues to resolve.
- Transmission - I'd be looking at the questions:
1) When I want to go forward does it go forward?
2) When I want to go backward does it do it?
If the answers are yes, then UI'd tend to be happy with the transmission.
- Engine - Questions to consider
1) Does it run totally fine on the level?
2) Does it only stall out when going downhill?
Yes answers would make me suspicious of a contaminated fuel problem that is getting into the fuel delivery system when the level of the fuel tank changes.

I'd start by draining and cleaning the carb AND completely draining the fuel tank. Replace the fuel filter, and start over with fresh gas.

Hope this helps;
Cheerfuls.
Time for me to go cut grass.

Went out to cut grass and the blades will not engage and when I put it in gear it does not move. Belts are intact. I cleaned the deck of dirt and grass. Still nothing. Just replaced the cable to engage the blades last year. Cable seems to be working.

You should be able to push it forwards as well as backwards. I had a similar problem (engine stalling) with mine. I found out if I half choke it, it will stay running. Transmission may still have a problem.
