Should be either the indoor temp or outdoor temp sensor. Try cleaning the indoor air filter units.

Please recheck the error code. Are you sure the code is P4 and not F4? Carrier does not list a P4 but it does list an F4 error code. F4 means outdoor mid-coil temperature sensor malfunction. Or how about E4? E4 means compressor discharge high temperature protection.

If this is a ductless mini split e4 appears to be an air temp sensor on the indoor or outdoor unit that is sensing an abnormal reading. Check air filter and both I.d & o.d coil cleanliness. Its hard to troubleshoot without a model number. If its a 38g or 40g in the model number its a discharge temp sensor reading high temp situation (dirty o.d. coil, low freon, refrigerant restriction. Again, need a model #

E4 indicates an internal memory error. Download the manual and refer to any possible solutions.

Need model. Number or name. E4 is several different codes for carrier. Likely a temp sensor from what I'm seeing.

E-4 ..........short of asor no gas/E4 is an "Abnormality of Outdoor Unit."Find leak and arrest it. Recharge gas.

i have carrier ac and it showing E.4 it is not cooling at all please help to solve the problem

E4 indicates your unit is in need of service.

E4 means return air sensor error, if the error cannot reset may be the return air sensor is out of range or defective. But if the sensor is ok you need to replace the control board itself. The reading of return air sensor is 8k to 10k ohms @ 25deg. C temperature.
