the hooks are where the matteress goes. if you took off the long L bracket with hooks there are 4 of these. BUT 2 are shorter than the other 2, the short side goes on the drop down crib side. there is a close up on the photos but the silver hooks are where the silver bar hooks on to on the sliding rail to go up and down

You know I just purchased a Childesigns crib from a garage sale thatI thought had everything needed. When I got home, we found it was missing one top plastic rod.
