There are many reasons why pilot light can go out, from bad thermocouple to low air supply to dirty combustion parts, clogged orifice, low gas pressure, etc.

My whirlpool gas water heater model N50T61-403 has gone out. I have tried restarting it 3 times per the manufacturers instructions. Any idea what the problem is.

My first suspect is the thermocouple has failed (they should be changed periodically, every 5-7 years as they do fail). Without the signal from the thermocouple, the gas valve can not open and start the ignition process.

I have a Kenmore water heater model number 153339461. Tried to light per instructions and pilot still is not lighting. What else should I do?

If the pilot is not lighting, you may have a lot of air in the gas line. If the pilot light is not staying lit, you may have to change the thermocouple.
