I have a Sony MHC-GX470 stereo...it will not play cd's...when you load a cd in it comes up with "mecha error"...the cd changer will not move between cd 1, cd2 and cd3 either.

The mechanism is bad or in human terms the motor that excepts and moves the disc has gone out i reccomend taking it to a repair shop to get a estimate because it may jus be cheaper to replace it.

mechanical error. a moving part is either broke or physically jammed. remove the cover (dont touch anything inside) and look for broken or jammed pieces, ssuch as gears or belts.
do not get your hopes up- you will probably not be able to fix it, and it will probably be too expensive to pay a professional to do it for you. the player is probably trashed.

It is error message of HiFi when it finds problem in Tape Mechanism. Tape mechanism is stucked and needs to be reset. Open your HiFi and rotate the capstan wheel with finger and then try to power up.
i have a sony mini Hi-Fi Component System MHC-GX470. I comes on, the Radio and Tape deck plays well. the CD Player says "mecha Error" and hangs. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME???
