Strap mounts are right at the strap ends why can't you find them?
I use chimney strapping (get from most hardware stores) to make new ones. Paint them with undercoating spray to keep from rusting out.

If straps are already broken, move the tank out of the way.

Need to know how to remove bracket straps from fuel tank on a 1988 mercury grand marquis

Usually the straps are bolted up at one end, and the other end is a kind of hinge bracket that the strap fits in. The bolts may be somewhat large, requiring a 9/16 or a 5/8 socket, possibly metric of about 15millimeter in that case. Use a 1/2 inch drive ratchet wrench, and plenty of lubricant or penetrating oil-you may encounter rusted bolts, so let the penetrant soak in a few minutes. Do one strap at a time-unbolt it and it will swing down. Then you can remove it from its front hinge piece, usually by twisting it sideways and slipping it out. Pretty easy job, although rusted bolts can be a challenge. And you will need the car raised a bit on jack stands, actually as high as you can get it to be comfortable under it, so be very safety conscious. Make sure it is stable before you get under it. Good luck.

Removed gas tank guard now won't start

Overtime, Jeep Grand Cherokee fuel tanks develop rust and accumulate sediment. This is especially true if the tank sits empty for a period of time. Rust and sediment can break loose and cause clogged filters. When the filter is clogged, the engine does not receive the amount of fuel required to operate. The fuel tank can be cleaned out; however, replacing the tank is easier.
  • 1 Apply the parking brake.

  • 2 Remove the gas cap.
  • 3 Remove the fuel pump relay from the power distribution center under the hood. Look at the underside of the power distribution cover, and locate the fuel pump relay.

  • 4 Attempt to start the engine, cranking the engine for several seconds.
  • 5 Turn the ignition to "Off." Install the fuel pump relay.
  • 6 Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
  • 7 Lift the fuel tank into position, using the jack.

8 Attach the fuel filler hose and vapor return hose to the fuel tank.Tighten the clamps with a Phillips screwdriver.

  • 9 Pivot the fuel tank retaining straps into position. Tighten the fuel tank retaining strap nuts with a socket and ratchet. Lower the jack.

  • 10 Connect the fuel pump electrical connector, the fuel filter line and the fuel return line. Push the fuel line retainer into the chassis.
  • 11 Raise the heat shield. Install the mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts with a socket and ratchet.
  • 12 Install the tow hooks or trailer hitch, if equipped.
  • 13 Lift the skid plate into position with the jack. Tighten the skid plate mounting bolts with a socket and ratchet.
  • 14 Attach the electrical service connector to the bumper with a socket and ratchet.
  • 15 Raise the jack and remove the jack stands. Slowly, lower the vehicle.
  • 16 Pour the fuel into the gas tank. Connect the negative battery cable.
  • Buy Custom car Parts.

    REPLACING FUEL TANK STRAPS

I know it can be a bear if the bolts and pins are rusted. Unless the new straps are OEM, some after market straps don't fit quite as well and you need Godzilla strength to manover them into place to get them pinned and bolted back up.
You shouldn't have to drop the tank as long as you do the straps one at a time. Get a floor jack, transmission jack or even a motorcycle jack and place wood under the gas tank and do one strap at a time. I used a second jack to help push the strap in place so I could push it into place on a 97 Dakota. Good luck and sometimes it goes smooth but, some times it makes a preacher say things they wouldn't say in church. :)

Have a bad rattle at the muffler.sounds like the it is hitting the car.like a bracket broke.

Very common problem with the muffler strap(clamp) breaking. It can be bought at any auto parts store & is easily replaced. It wraps around muffler & slides into a rubber mount bracket.

How do i remove the gas tank from my 1999 chevrolet trail blazer

Depending on how rusted your Blazer is. You either remove the bolts from the straps or cut the straps off and replace both. Get a 2x4 and place of lift jack. The tanks should be about empty or a pain to lift. Lift the jack up to take some of the weight off the tank. Try to unbolt straps. If no luck. Get out a hand power grinder. Start cutting. That's about the only way I know. We removed my son's fuel tank off a 1988 GMC pickup last Sunday. Everything was rusted BAD The straps had to be cut. We didn't have any replacements. So we used 3 ATV orange racket straps. Worked fine so far.

I need to remove the fuel filterbut dont know how

Underneath the truck, just in front the gas tank, there is a hose coming from the tank.
Mounted to the frame with a "strap" type bracket,
is your fuel filter. When replacing this you must be certain to orient the new filter with the arrow pointing toward the front of the truck or away from the tank.

Normally it's just a matter of removing filler tubes from side, disconnect fuel lines & electrical connections at fuel pump/sender, undo the 2 straps, & lower it down.
