SOURCE: Kitchenaid Microwave torsion spring replacement

I just replaced torsion spring 4452396 on my microwave. We heard a "pop" and then the door got heavy. here are a couple things I learned...THE HARD WAY!
We had the stainless steel front to the door and needed spring 4452396, not 4451008. The stainless steel door is heavier so therefore a stiffer spring. I'm not sure i could justify the 4x cost in the part...but that's just the way it is. It's a bit of a pain to repair the thing..so it's worth it to get the correct spring. You don't wan to be doing this every couple of of months!
You have to remove the front panel of the door to access the springs. there are 2 of them...they cross each other in an "x" pattern on the lower part of the door. We had to pull the unit out a bit to get the spring in the hole for correct position. No need to remove the door etc. If you need help with this...email me.
My mistake was when I was trying to figure out how to gain access to the springs I assumed you did from the inside of the door. I removed the two black things you see on the lower right/left of the door (screw on the bottom of them) then proceeded to remove the two recessed screws on the inside top corners of the door. Well next thing i know.....CRASH! the whole front of the door fell off and shattered! Come to find out those screws and brackets on the bottom hold the face of the door on. The glass is intergrated into the color panel of the door..so it's one piece! 150.00 later and a new piece of glass/panel i learned a hard lesson.
Let me know if you need help...it's fairly easy to do now that I look back on it. dave [email protected]

How do i replace kitchenaid superba microwave torsion spring

This is tricky if not done in correct order real easy to break the plastic door frame I will try an explain best I can there is a vent cover between MW door and oven door remove on the MW bottom frame there is a tab on each side with a small screw remove screws you can now pull MW forward won't move very far now the plastic piece that connects to door look up at bottom remove these 2 screws it will be at an angle I use a small speed wrench with a phillips bit okay all this is loose now open the MW door towards top there are 2 holes inside each is a phillips screw use a skinny screw driver hold the door tight it is spring load the frame part with glass will try to slam forward door should now be free usually only one spring is broken change both they are not the same different part numbers take a picture first before trying to remove you will eventually figure out that you have to put in hole at one end and thread thru to the other end then twist in place to lock now be careful if you slip real easy to break inner glass once you figure all this out put the door back in the exact opposite order starting with the door screws first you will now find out the door has a high spring load i usually mate the door to the frame and secure with tape after door is on then do the 2 screws on bottom of plastic frame do the sequence backwards you will break this piece, best i can do yes a lot work but remember I do this about 3 times a week I suggest you think about paying an appliance repair company to do this reason being that plastic piece i keep harping on is roughly 100.00 to replace which negates most savings by doing it your self hopes this helps good luck

The Light has gone out in my KitchenAid Microwave Model KEMC308KSS0...how do I replace it?

I have a kems308...very similar to yours. Order the bulb by finding it on the parts list and ordering it on Amazon or thru Kaid. Mine was $13.00! The bulb on mine is a baseless bulb that goes in a bulb holder held by a spring behind the control panel. The control panel is easy to remove, but turn off the power first. Plan on an hour. If you can access yours this way it saves having to remove the whole unit.

Need to replace light bulb in kitchen aid microwave

KitchenAid wants $58 for the replacement bulb. I bought it for $1.99 from www.lightbulbsdirect.com and it works just fine. The Item number is Q5G412V. It is a halogen 5-watt, 12-volt bipen G-4. Replacing the bulb requires some dismantling of the microwave. At first I was nervous about removing so many parts to get to the bulb but in the end it really wasn't so bad. The only tool I needed was a Phillips screwdriver. I surfed the net a eventually found instructions left by a friendly Blogger that guided me through the whole process. KitchenAid engineers were so STUPID when they designed this microwave. It takes two hours to replace a bulb that should take 5 minutes. Oddly enough, replacing the bulb in the normal oven below the microwave oven is a piece of cake.
