Click on the Start button, then click on Control Panel from the right-hand side to delve into your computer's settings. From the Control Panel, click on Sound and Audio Devices to bring up your audio settings. Check the Place volume icon in the taskbar and then click Apply. You should now be able to see your volume icon from the taskbar again.

SOURCE: task bar displays
Windows usually hides the task bar icons you have not used recently.
If that is the case, you must have a small left arrow < at the left of the last icon displayed. Click that arrow and the hidden icons will be displayed for a short while.
Usually the safely remove hardware is present (shown or hidden) whenever there is a removable equipement.
For the local or dial up connection, you can configure your computer to display it on the task bar. Here is how to do it in Windows XP
1. Press the Start button on the left, choose Connect To > Show all connections. You will see all your connections, each one symbolized by an icon.
2. Point the mouse cursor to the one you want, Right Click Mouse button, then Properties.
3 Under the General Tab, put a check mark in Show icon in notification area when connected
4. Click OK.
Hope it helps

Go to Run and from run, type in devmgmt.msc and click ok. Scroll down to sound and see if you have any items with a yellow exclamation beside it. If so, you will need to install the audio driver for the device. If you still do not find the solution to your answer then visit http://www.vtechsquad.com/ and get the maximum out of it...
