To prevent rust, make sure you get wet grass off of the lawn mower every time you mow. Once every 3 uses, apply a light oil with a rag on every metal surface that comes in contact with moisture. If your paint chips, paint over the spot immediately to prevent corrosion.
Moisture is the biggest enemy for outdoor equipment. Lawn mowers can last decades if you protect and prevent.
There are many places a vehicle can leak oil from. If you want to find it yourself please try looking from underneath the vehicle and finding any wet oil spots. Be ready to get dirty. Try to keep using disposable towels to dab spots and follow the spots that come away wet until you find the highest wet spot. The rear-main seal on many engines start leaking or the leak may be at the head gasket. The space under the hood on the 02 Liberty is very cramped and hard to see. I would advise taking it to 2 different mechanics for quotes and seeing about what it would cost. Engine work on your "daily driver" vehicle can be more than you want to pay but if you don't get this fixed the leak may worsen, possibly to the point of stranding you or damaging the engine.
I had the same problem with my Troy-Bilt self propelled lawn mower. You have to use the grass catcher if your grass is high. Also, I mowed wet grass and it made my belt slip off the pulley and created a new problem, somowing wet grass is definitely not a good idea.
I have the EXACT same problem with my mower. I called the Black & Decker number listed above, and learned that the mower is under recall for this problem. So call them and find out where the nearest dealer is, and they will fix it for free.
