Why would I hear a pop an my tv shuts off an will not turn back on

U should consider local service provider in this matter..

Try cleaning the little fans that keep the bulb cool, the temp sensor will shut it off so not to damage the bulb , the winning sound may be the fan going bad or not working like it should.

The tv have 1 or 2 long boards call the LCD inverter boards.These 1 or 2 long inverter boards are dead.That why the LCD screen not getting a backlight to produced a picture.Replaced those 1 or 2 long LCD inverter boards,will get a baklight back and have picture.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com buy those refurbishes 1 or 2 long LCD inverter boards for the replacement.

Your tv is being attacked by electrical surges which seem very violent and has already damaged some logic controls. Please invest in a AC filter which will protect your tv from such spikes....... but first you need to get your tv serviced from the electrical damaged it has already suffered.

I guess your TV is DLP.
Please notice the follow symthoms:
When you on TV, did you hear some strange noise from the back of the TV. If yes, the color wheel needs replacing.
If no, check the lamp. Take a look to bottom of lamp, you will see white pot or sometime a pop up there due to lamp cycle is going to end. When changing lamp, check the ballast and power sup, too. If you see caps are poping up. Pull out those board and replace the poped caps.

check r517 on the power supply board if it is burnt or damaged replace it with a + or - 5% 10K 1/4 watt resistor this has been a problem in other units.

RCA TV's of that vintage are known for having bad solder joints in the power supply stages and they become very remperature sensitive.

Lamp life is only a few thousand hours. Hopefully its only the lamp that made to noise. Don't turn on again until lamp is replaced.
