SOURCE: Hobart A200T General Info / Back cover plate gasket

I'm a service tech for hobart,I'll type your serial number into our database and see what it brings up.The changes that have been made---older units use a mechanical start switch on the motor, the new units use an electronic start switch.the old units center shaft and gears have changed.the older units dont have bowl guards and the new units do.(this is a cage that goes around the bowl). The gasket that your talking about is just that--a thin paper. The paper wears and you get that symptom you describe and its normal.I'll get back to you.

In middle of kneading dough, the machine stopped! I noticed that the gears that connect the bowl to the machine, stopped turning, when machine goes on, it makes a noise, but nothing turns.

Hi HENNY346. Your Bosch mixer is belt driven and from the description of your mixer’s symptoms I suspect that the drive belt has come loose or failed completely so it stopped driving the dough hook. You say that when you turn the mixer on, it makes a noise, which may be the motor running without any load, but your description of ‘noise’ is very vague.
The good news is that you should be able to diagnose and fix this quite easily (OK, maybe with a little effort) by yourself, if you are a DITY type person, feel adventurous, and your mixer is not under warranty.
Here are links to two online parts vendors for your Bosch mixer that also provide an exploded view diagram along with part names, numbers and prices. They are: Cook's Quarters and AppliancePartsPros.com It can be very gratifying to go “under the hood”, figure out what’s wrong and fix it yourself. Good luck , I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA

Dough riding up dough hoook

Chances are you have a 3 PH motor and the motor is running backwards. Take the plug and unscrew the 3 or 4 screws. look at the wiring and change any two of the wires. DO NOT CHANGE THE GROUND WIRE! That one is usually green, but can be noticed by the curved tip as well.
If you do not have a three phase mixer, chances are your dough is too thick or too wet.

Leaking oil where beaters connect

Hi Maureen. Your K45SS needs to be serviced. The old grease and the oil that has separated from the grease must be removed and the unit cleaned. If you, or someone you know, are up to the task, go to mendingshed.com and download the Kitchenaid Service Manual. This very thorough manual will assist you with the task at hand and with future repairs.

The replacement grease I recommend is Chevron FM ALC EP-2. This is a "Food Grade" grease which is non-toxic should some drip into your mixer bowl at a later date. The planetary gearing should also be removed, cleaned and regreased.

Go to kitchenaid.com, click on Customer Care and click on the Manuals button. In the search window, enter your model number thusly, k45sswh and download the parts drawings for your mixer. These drawings will give you an "exploded view" of your mixer and will come in handy if you need to order parts. Mending Shed also sells replacement parts.

Once your mixer is back in service, run the unit for a couple of minutes every week, this will help keep the oil suspended in the grease and extend the life of the grease.

I have a Sunshine Yellow Kitchenaid professional 6, 525 watts with three mixing attachments, and pouring shield, in mint condition, just had it in the repair shop to replace the plastic seal (not sure if...

Hi Lisa. Your mixer's plastic transmission housing failed when you were mixing bread dough or cookie dough. When this cheap plastic part fails, it can cause internal damage to the worm gear shaft, worm gear bearings and their seats as well as other internal damage. This kind of damage is not easily found, as the grease inside the transmission must be removed and parts cleaned to fully acertain damage. If the trans. housing was the only part replaced, I would view the repair as only partial.

If the mixer now runs well, without any internal noises during operation, consider yourself fortunate. You could advertise that you have upgraded the mixer (metal housing). A price between $200.00 to $250.00 would be in the ballpark.

KitchenAid 600, Stand Mixer - Loud grinding noise, happened when mixing bread dough. When bowl is lowered (dough hook disengaged)....no noise, hook turns. When bowl is raised so that hook engages dough,...

Hi. Stop using your mixer. If your mixer is still covered by warranty, call Kitchenaid Customer Service, they are very good with warranty repairs.

If your mixer is out of warranty, remove the silver band that surrounds the top of mixer. Remove the top cover. At the front of the mixer, locate the transmission housing which is now exposed. Examine this housing carefully for cracks. If you find cracks anywhere in this housing, you have found the under-engineered plastic transmission housing. Kitchenaid's replacement housing is made of metal. Your plastic housing has no business being in a mixer that is marketed as being able to mix bread dough. It cannot!

If you're confident that you can make the repairs yourself, go to the Kitchenaid website and download the parts drawings. Remove the Trans. housing, remove the worm gear shaft assembly which is driven by the motor.. Remove and save as much grease as necessary to thoroughly inspect the worm gear. Inspect the worm shaft bearings. Look for cracks, or missing pieces on the bearings. Look for crunched cogs on all gears. Be prepared to wait at least a month for your parts to arrive after you order them. The replacement grease should be Shell Darina 2, or Chevron FM ALC EP 2.

If you're not confident about repairing this yourself, call Kitchenaid and determine the nearest "approved" repair shop.

You may be able to pressure Kitchenaid to pay for the damaged parts in your mixer. They are still installing these plastic Trans. housing on new mixers. Insist on a metal cover when replacing. Apparently, Kitchenaid feels no shame in their manufacturing process, and will not issue a recall notice for these housings. They are substandard at best.
