This sounds like a motor problem. I would suggest unplugging the power and gently cleaning any inner parts of the printer you can reach, especially by the cartridge carriage. If that doesn't work, the printer will need professional maintenance.
If the installation hangs using the setup cd , the best thing that you can do here is to download the printer software from HP site and install it after that and that should correct the problem..
The DIMM is a removable memory chip installed for adding additional memory. You'll have to replace it. Look in your manual for how to change the DIMM. You can usually remove it and see if the printer works. If you don't see the message again, then you should replace the chip.
I have the same printer; when installing it asks if I have a PC or Mac? Of course I have PC so I click PC. Another area you can check is the printer driver itself. Make sure the PC driver for the printer was installed. Then re-boot p-rinter, computer and all. Hope this helps.
1. check the printer, make a copy
2. check connectivity, open device manager - USB Printing Support(under
Universal Serial Bus Controllers) must be there - swap cable/port if
it´s not
3. uninstall, reboot then re install printer driver
