It picks up movement, and that triggers an internal switch (computer board) to turn light on. If this is attached to a regular light switch, leave the light switch in the ON position. After a few minutes (depending on what you set the time at), the light will go off. Sometimes, people aren't big fans of these switches - because if they are in a room, and there's no activity (eg. working on the computer, reading a book, etc.) - the light will automatically go off. Then, you have to wave your hand - or get up and move - in order to get it to turn back on. So, setting the sensitivity levels, and time intervals are important in relation to the use. Hope this helps! Feel free to ask more question's if you'd like - and I'll answer you as soon as I'm able too...Jim

My lift master GDo motion sensor lights quit working.

If the motion sensor lights on your LiftMaster garage door opener have stopped working, and the suggested method of using the three-button wall control didn't resolve the issue, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check the Light Bulbs: Ensure that the light bulbs in your garage door opener are not burnt out or loose. Replace them if necessary. Use bulbs that are compatible with your opener and within the recommended wattage range.
  2. Check the Light Socket: Inspect the light socket for any damage or corrosion. Make sure it's clean and securely connected to the opener.
  3. Test the Motion Sensors Directly:
    • If your garage door opener has safety sensors (typically located near the floor on both sides of the door), check to see if they are aligned properly.
    • Make sure there is no debris, spider webs, or other obstructions blocking the sensors.
    • Clean the sensor lenses with a soft, dry cloth.
    • Check the sensor wiring for any damage or loose connections.
  4. Adjust the Light Timer:
    • Some garage door openers have a light timer setting that determines how long the lights stay on after activation. Check the timer setting and adjust it if necessary.
  5. Reset the Opener:
    • Sometimes, resetting the garage door opener can resolve issues. To reset, unplug the opener from the power source for a few minutes, then plug it back in. Test the motion sensor lights again.
  6. Inspect the Wiring:
    • Examine the wiring connected to the opener and the motion sensors. Look for any damaged or frayed wires. Replace or repair any damaged wiring.
  7. Check for Interference:
    • Nearby electronic devices or fluorescent lighting can sometimes interfere with the motion sensor operation. Try turning off or unplugging nearby devices to see if it affects the sensor lights.
  8. Update or Reinstall the Sensors:
    • If the sensors are older or have been in place for a long time, consider replacing them with new ones. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation.
  9. Contact LiftMaster Support:
    • If you've tried all of the above steps and the motion sensor lights still don't work, it's advisable to contact LiftMaster customer support or a certified LiftMaster technician for further assistance. There may be a more complex issue with the opener that requires professional diagnosis and repair.
Keep in mind that garage door opener systems can vary, so consult your owner's manual for specific instructions related to your model. Always prioritize safety when working with garage door openers and their components.

Motion lite stays on all the time

If your motion sensor light is not turning off or it stays on for long periods of time, it might need to be reset. Your outdoor sensor lights are not working or they seem less sensitive than the usual. Your motion sensor lights should work some of the time, not just on some occasions.

Lights flash on and off

Very common issue with motion sensing lights. You can either replace the light sensor which is available at most hardware stores or you can disable the motion sensing feature and just have an on-off light. To disable the sensor, (turn off the power!) unscrew and remove the light sensor (it is the reposition-able box under the light.) It depends on the particular light, but you usually just match up the wire coming into the light from the house and the wire from the bulbs and connect them with a wire-nut.
