Why would the output sound level on a MP3 vary so much?

I have songs on my mp3 that when I play back the sound goes from loud to unhearable. I am thinking the input level must have been different. is there a software that would correct this problem? I ride my Harley and I cannot hear some of the songs I have recorded Thank you for your time Kevin

MP3 songs are recorded at different levels. Many modern tunes have been deliberately recorded loud by the record companies for maximum effect.
If you are recording the songs yourself some recording software has a "normalize" feature. This increases or reduces the volume of the track to a certain level. Especially useful when you have tracks at different levels. By the way this is how they get CD tracks to play at the same levels. So you don't have to turn up the volume or turn it down every time a new track plays.

Sometimes all you need to do for that is profile the songs. This organizes the songs into the correct catagories.

Sounds like the files are DRM copy protected.

You can check for protected tracks.

  • In Windows Explorer, go to the folder where the tracks are stored on your PC.
  • Click on View -----> Details
  • Right click on the header bar in the right hand window and select protected. (If protected is not listed click on More)
  • Tracks will be listed with No or Yes under "protected". Check your non-playing tracks are listed as No, under "protected".
The HDD1830 is not compatible with protected files, although your PC will play them ok.

SOURCE: mp3 player plays back songs too fast

First step is trying to do a firmware upgrade from RCA.COM. Go to the support page and look for your Lyra by model. Let us know if this corrects the problem.

SOURCE: sandisk 240m mp3 not playing

the radio and mp3 uses one audio amplifier, check if you have loaded your music with mp3 songs, if not load with mp3 songs. if songs used to play and just stopped playing, then follow these steps,

i does your display show song playing, if it does then your set is fault, and if it doent and display unsuppoted, load with mp3 songs.

ii if it was playing and just stopped, than take it to a tech, who can open it and check the change-over switch, or selector of that set.

iii the problem is to very big.

SOURCE: Mp3 plays few seconds of song.

Do you mean it plays a few seconds then skips onto the next song? If that is the case then most likely you have "Intro" play set which only plays a few seconds as a introduction then skips to the next time.

To fix this, during music playback, press the [menu] button, then there should be an option there to change it from "Intro" to "NORMAL" instead.

Hope that helps.

My 256MB Personal MP3 Player will only play ten secounds & go on

First, it would have been helpful to know what is the model of the MP3 player, so answers can be specific. However, you seem to have accidently program it to play the intro of the songs. There should be a settings which enable you to change it back. Check for "A-B" it should be the symbol for the menu used to do that.

No sound when playing back songs i have downloaded just amessage

The songs that you got are probably from the Rhapsody trial. Once the subscriptino expires, you will on longer be able to play those songs on your mp3 player.

To avoid this problem, only purchase songs that are in mp3 format from Rhapsody's Mp3 Store. You will find that mp3 players are expensive propositions in 2009 - it used to be much easier/cheaper.

If you want to go with illegal but free (I do not reccomend it), you can get songs from Limewire, Frostiwre, or Morpheus. Three warnings I must issue:
1) Only download songs that say "Mp3" under file format.
2) Some ISP's will cut off your internet service if you use limewire
3) Make sure you have strong Anti-Virus software on your computer, b/c the free svcs are littered with viruses/adware/etc.

Creative Zen

Most audio software these days offer either built-in or plugin functionality that will attempt to level the volume of your MP3 files so that you aren't turning the volume up to hear soft songs, then getting blasted by louder ones. So why is it that even after turning that option on, you sometimes notice a significant volume difference between some songs? What's worse is when you're listening to songs from the same album, and the volumes jump around abnormally after applying volume normalization.

The problem is that the vast majority of audio player programs use peak amplitude analysis to determine how "loud" a song is and normalize based on that, rather than doing a more comprehensive analysis of the frequencies that impact how loud the music actually sounds. But even those that do a more comprehensive analysis fail to consider songs within the context of the album they belong to.

Luckily, there's a great little utility called MP3 Gain that does lossless volume analysis and adjustment based on David Robinson's Replay Gain algorithm, as well as allowing for the volume of entire albums to be processed. MP3 Gain has been around for a number of years, and it doesn't appear that it is being actively developed anymore, but since MP3 technology hasn't changed much either that doesn't matter for our purposes.

So, how do you fix an entire library of music? Pretty easy, actually. MP3 Gain offers batch processing options that allow you to process an entire folder at once. But if you collect music albums, you'll want to do those separately. The reason is that MP3Gain offers two modes: Radio and Album. Radio analysis and gain adjustment will adjust all songs to the same maximum decibel level. Album mode analyzes all of the songs in an album, essentially considering them to be one entire song, then adjusts them all to a maximum decibel level, but maintains their relative volume.

Mp3 output volume

The problem with iPod is that you just can't play music without iTunes. If you happen to delete the iTunes related folder on the iPod you will notice that you won't be able to play any of the files that are still there. (iTunes is the software that makes the iPod work).

On the other hand, you can surely drag and drop songs between your laptop and iPod (like Windows Explorer) ...and use the iPod like a portable Hard disk, but you won't be able to play any Music. So as it is, using iTunes is a must.

For varying sound volumes, you can use a technique called as "normalizing". There are a lot of tools available on the internet (free or otherwise) that let you normalize mp3s.
Search google for "normalize mp3".
