E73 PERMANENT FIX

E73 Error

I have a refurbished xbox 360 that gave me the e73 error and I used the fan jamming technique to overheat the xbox "resetting" the error, which worked a few times, but now the e73 error is back. I am very knowledgable with electronics and technical problem solving, whoever has experience with 360 repairs, i would love to get your thorough solutions on this, since there is almost nothing on the web to solve this problem. But suggestions were too

1.use the fan overheating
2. reflow the solder
3. check the southbridge/ethernet chip

Can anyone throw 2 cents in, experts on this.

Thanks in advanced!

The solder that is used on those two main chips on the motherboard are made of cheap led solder.

Doing the reflow method will help but you never really know for how long cause it depends on how long you have the xbox 360 on at one time.

The only other thing to try is to resolder and then maybe putting a cooling unit on the xbox 360 so that way even if your playing for a long time the solder has less of a chance to heat up to much and will keep the solder in place more so that the message won't come back.

I know this question has been out for a long time, but for anyone stumbling accross this page and who wants an answer to the e73 problem here are a few permanent fixes you can try:

  1. A properly done southbridge reflow on both the GPU, and the ethernet chip (this is the chip right below the ethernet port) will almost certainly enable you to fix the e73 error.
  2. The X-clamp fix for the GPU can also be used to great success on the e73 error. A good X-Clamp kit can be purchased on Amazon (I would recommend buying a quality kit with thermal compound, not a cheapie one) The instructions will either come with the kit, or you can check YouTube, or buy an Xbox 360 repair guide for the best instructions.
  3. It is also possible to replace the ethernet chip itself. This is the most complex method available, if only because you need to actually find a replacement ethernet chip from a scrapped console.
  4. The fan jamming technique should be avoided as even though it may work temporarily, it could cause permanent damage to your console and is simply a "brute force" solution to the problem.

Got the Xbox 360 E73 error? Want to get it fixed? Fact is that this problem may be tough to fix, and that's why many people will tell you to send your console over to Microsoft and pay $150. But is it really worth your $150? Is there maybe another way to get it fixed? The Xbox 360 E73 error may be tough to fix, but this doesn't mean that you can't repair it by yourself.
3 ways to fix the Xbox 360 E73 error
1. Restart your console.
2. Unplug all AV cables, and also unplug the power cord from the wall socket. Once that's done, plug them all back in correctly, and put your console back on.
3. Take out the hard drive, and put your console on. If the troubleshooting error has been gone, put your console off, and get the hard drive in again. Than put your console back on.
If these tips didn't fix your Xbox 360 E73 error, you will have to open up your console, and fix the problem from within. You can do this by 2 ways. You either send it over to Microsoft, or you will actually repair the troubleshooter by yourself with a repair guide.
Fix Xbox 360 E73 error by Microsoft or by myself?
So what to choose? Well, if you send your console over to Microsoft, you will have to pay $150 if your warranty has been expired. Also, you will have to wait for 2-6 weeks before you can get back to playing. You'd better want to avoid this... Right?
It can be done way faster and cheaper... If you fix the Xbox 360 E73 problem by yourself, you will be able to get the problem fixed without spending $150. But, you will have to spend a little money on a repair guide, because that's what you will use.
You will use a repair guide, because it gives you step by step instructions that's including photo's and videos, so you will be able to open up your console, and fix the Xbox 360 E73 error very cheap and easily. See it for yourself, visit: Xbox 360 Repairs
Also, when you fix the Xbox 360 E73 error by yourself, you will be able to get it repaired in less than 1 day, or even within 1 hour. It's done before, so why wouldn't you be able to do it either? Want to play your favourite games again, today? Get yourself a repair guide, visit: Fix E73 Error

Xbox 360 E73 error. What do I do?

Turn on unit until the red light flashes and the error code(E 73) shows up on the screen. Next insert toothpicks in the back of the console(while unit is running) into the cooling fans, this is to suppose to overheat the console and start two red lights flashing. Turn off console when this happens(unplug all cords from console) and turn the system back on.

Here is a link to a temporary fix. I DO NOT RECCOMEND YOU DOING THIS as it may do more damage to your 360. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Xbox 360 error e73

There is no easy do it yourself fix with the Ethernet failure. you will need to send to Microsoft for this repair. the actual Ethernet port is integrated within the main board. it will need to be replaced by a Microsoft tech. They will re solder the new port on the board and the actual Port is not available for consumer purchase at this time. use the number below to request a repair ticket.
